Peoples - good or bad for bridal sets?

Jenny, on August 12, 2022 at 16:13 Posted in Before the wedding 0 11
We’re looking at getting a bridal set for me for the wedding - is Peoples any good? I’ve seen some scathing reviews online so I’d love some opinions from here before we commit to it.

We bought both my fiancee's engagement/wedding ring set and my wedding ring here. We are VERY happy with what we found! Just make sure you keep following up with them regarding maintenance/cleaning etc.

My ring is from peoples. Had it for 6-7 years. I also have a set from then but l lost my hand. I occasionally got my ring clean from the store.

My fiancé got my engagement and wedding band from Peoples. I can only really speak to the quality of the engagement ring right now as we are not yet married.

The issue I have with it is that I received it in July last year and in November the aquamarine centre stone had already fallen out. I lucked out and found it and took it to Peoples to have it fixed (with warranty).
The sales associate lied to me and said I would have it back within two weeks when in reality it took just under two months. Then when I got it back it was very clearly not the centre stone I originally had. The same sales associate argued with me for quite some time and tried to convince me that it was the exact same stone.
Peoples emailed me and asked me to leave a review about my experience and I definitely didn’t hold back. Within a day of leaving my review the manager reached out and asked me to call him. He apologized and finally told me that I was correct in that the centre stone was not my original and offered to have it replaced with one that was similar in cut to my original. I agreed to have them do this because I liked the look of the original better. When I returned to the store the original combative sales person gave me a look like I was wasting their time and just had a very snotty demeanour. Everyone else I dealt with at this location was nice and professional but she really soured the experience.
TL;DR- I do still recommend Peoples but make sure to get the warranty and try to avoid the location in Sunridge Mall in Calgary.

It really depends on what you're looking to get. If you're looking for a basic wedding band with simple gemstones as a design, it could be an affordable option because Peoples offer lab grown gemstones in different varieties as opposed to many jewellers who only offer the more expensive natural stones option. Wait until they do one of their major sales (Mother's Day, Valentine's Day etc) and the prices are even lower.

That being said, you do get what you pay for but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Peoples low prices are based on preset designs, like an off the rack dress. If you're looking to go custom, it will cost you more than what most indie jewellers will charge but for a basic standard design, its an affordable option. Their gemstones are also usually lower in quality compared to other sources (murkier colour, lower clarity etc) but if you're getting something like an infinity ring where the gems don't add up to any more than a quart of a carat distributed across 10-15 stones, who needs them to be close to "flawless" when they're lodged up against one another and indistinguishable by the naked eye.

For men's plain rings, you can find cheaper options elsewhere. A standard 6mm gold band at 10K will sell at Peoples for around $750 while you can get a 14K equivalent at Etsy for $600 and Costco for <$500.

My set is a cheap set from Peoples and I have no issues with them, love both my rings. The customer service at the store could be improved, but I'm finding these days great customer service is hard to get these days.

Check out Charm Diamond Centre! Been dealing with them for almost 6 years and they have been amazing! My husband got me the lifetime warranty. I just have to go and get my rings inspected every sic months. I've lost 3 diamonds because of my job field (my fault lol) i dont wear my rings when im at work now,, and they fixed them without any issue. My husband also got his wedding band from them as well and been amazing to work with! Highly recommend them!

When my stepdad proposed to my mom he went to Peoples and bought her an engagement ring and wedding band. It was high quality, cut clarity the whole nine. After they were married and it had been a few months she took it in to have it cleaned as they recommended, and when she went to pick it up she could tell right away that it wasn't her diamond. It was smaller and she could tell right away that the quality was not up to par. It was a huge mess and of course People's denied it, they ended up having to go buy a whole new set elsewhere. I would recommend Spence Diamonds, that is where I got my set from and you can pick and chose and they also have Canadian diamonds ethically sourced.

If you have a Paris Jewellers near you, I highly recommend. They are a Canadian company and have been great to work with! Now, the ring I went with didn't have a matching band with it, and because of the setting, a completely circular band wouldn't sit right - my sales person grabbed a band that WAS part of a set, and had me try it on with the engagement ring - perfect fit. So she worked her magic and found a way to order the band from the set, separately, and for a great price.

I also found they treated me better than the staff at both People's and Ben Moss

My husband got me my set from peoples! It came with the engagement ring, a wedding band and an anniversary band! For warranty purposes you need to take it in every 6 months for an inspection. He also got me another band (for when I want something more simple to wear or for traveling) it lost a diamond and the warranty we paid for covered everything for replacing the diamond! I've had a very good experience with my jewelry from people's!
