Paying off the wedding

Brittany, on January 5, 2017 at 22:55 Posted in Before the wedding 0 16
So, my wedding was planned in 2 weeks, but now I'm dealing with the stress of how to pay for it all. I know we will be able to pay it off, but I'd rather pay for it sooner rather than later. We have about $6500 left to pay for.
Do any other brides have ideas for making "fast cash"? I work part time (26 hours) and I'm also I'm school full time but I feel like I wouldn't be more stressed if we could save more quickly.
I'd also love to save more than we need so we could splurge or add things (such as videographer) that we currently can't afford.
How is everyone else managing? 9 months to go!

Haha it's very easy to do! I rarely shop there, except for my favourite mascara. They don't have very much Cruelty Free makeup to make it worth it for me. Shopping online is so much more convenient too! I'm honestly scared of handing over the reins to someone else for my wedding day makeup. I think it's worth not being stressed on the day of to have it done, but I'm so used to how I do it that I'm nervous. I'm used to BEING the makeup artist haha I considered doing all my girls makeup, plus our mothers and myself but I don't think I want to be responsible for 7 people's makeup!

We are having one too but aren't banking on that making us any money. It's more important for us that we get to spend time with all our friends and family because our wedding is only 40 people and I have 16 aunts and uncles and 30 first cousins(and spouses) who wont be invited to the wedding so we really just want to celebrate with them. Hopefully we DO make some, but I'd be happy even if we didn't as long as our friends and family have fun.

Congratulations on your wedding! I'm getting married in 8 months and we have also been discussing how are we gonna pay for this?! So we are going to have a stag and doe with games, raffles and prizes. We are hoping that will help us make some extra cash for our wedding.

I agree with Valerie and Lisa. I'm currently working extra hours and cutting back on things that are not needed to save. Plus we are having a wedding social to help out as well.

I hit Rouge this year, much to my wallet's dismay. Smiley sad LOL i have more palettes than sense. BUT I'm taking advantage of the free makeovers to perfect my wedding makeup!
If you shop at shoppers for regular stuff, save up your optimum points for foundation! I got two UD lipsticks for free last time I used my points.

Haha considering I almost hit VIB Rouge this year, I can afford to shop my stash for a year! The only thing I'll need to purchase is foundation I think, but I might go the drugstore route for every day! It'll be the year of hitting pan!

It would be reasonable if I was working full time. My pay is only $180-200 and my car insurance alone is $200. Phone bill is $65. We only eat out once every 2 weeks which I think is pretty reasonable. I'm a makeup collector so I did give up purchasing makeup since we got engaged I've only purchased one thing on sale. We stopped buying yhink we want, and only buy things we need now. I'm sure we can make it happen, I just want it done quickly!!

    Hi Brittany !

You have 9 months to go and 6500 $ left to pay, that's 180 $ each to put aside per pay, that's reasonable ! You should look at your bank account and see where you spend most of your money. For me, it was food. We like to go out for lunch and we don't really look at the price tag at the groceries. Since we got engaged, I've made our lunches for work everyday and I try to cook more with just the ingredients that we have. I don't think you have to cut EVERYWHERE because you still have to live during those 9 months, don't make yourself miserable ! Set a reasonable budget and stick to it. I put myself 100 $ aside every pay for myself so I can buy stuff that I like and not feel bad.

I did dog sitting/walking when I was a student, and it really doesn't pay much for the time it takes. A fast way that I did money when I was a student was to rent a room in my house. It's super fast money and no work at all ! If you look on Kijiji jobs, there's also a lot of small companies that look for extra hands for just a few days, so it's extra cash but no commitment (you can do this during your reading week at school).

Even if you have a small debt after your wedding and school, you'll see that working full time will pay it off quickly.

    Good luck !

    Nathalie

We work opposite shifts. I'm out of the house from 8 am until 830 pm and he's out for the house from 9 pm until 8 am. Unfortunately this means we have to be creative, and it also means we don't have much time to commit to anything. We have stuck very closely to our budget. Our original budget was $10,000 and we came in at about $7,500 total. We currently owe $6,500. $6000 is our venue, food, decor, cake, officiant and wedding planner because it is all inclusive. The rest is our photographer and marriage license.

Hey Brittany, agree with Valerie's points! I would suggest dog walking too! What about delivering newspapers? I know it's not easy for one person but if you and your FH commit to doing it together that would help you get extra cash. News papers are always looking for people to deliver! No one wants to do that kind of physical labour anymore! Lastly, Have you tried making a budget to see if you can cut back in any other areas? My FH and I have created a budget that we are trying to stay on stop of, and tracking our receipts every month. This helps us save and see if there are any way we can cut back. Hope this helps!!!

So I'm deliberately having a prolonged engagement so we can save up and take $500 from each of our paychecks every month and store it away for the next 20 months.
We also are not taking any trips in 2017. Sticking to staycations. This is such a bummer for me because I love to travel (last year we went to Havana and Paris) but I am keeping in mind that the money I save can be used towards my honeymoon trip!

Also, using a cash back mastercard for everything so we get a bonus next December. (This year we got $200, for example!) We pay it off instantly but it's a great tool.

He works 12 hour days, and I'm in school and working 12 hour days. Not much time for second jobs because we do have a puppy at home also. I'm thinking I might keep my part time job once I start working full time when I'm done school. We gave up gift giving completely, our friends and family understand. I made Christmas gifts for $10 total for our entire family. Currently, I can't save much because of car insurance and phone bill. Our goal is to also be debt free before we get married so I find myself paying off my line of credit before saving.

I think it will be less stressful when I'm out of school because I'm limited in how much I can work right now. All my money is going to car insurance and phone bill. We gave up a lot to be able to save but it's just not happening quick enough. I know it'll happen, im just impatient and don't want to worry like the rest of the wedding! I think if I planned more slowly I wouldn't be so stressed about money but at least I know exactly what we need to save already!

You or FH could take on another job like dog sitting/walking. Other than that just cutting back EVERYWHERE, every bit counts. A chunk of my paycheck goes straight into a savings account, we don't eat out, buy off brand, no gifts for each other and smaller gifts for friends/family (for birthdays and whatnot). Unfortunately no get rich quick schemes

For us any time we get a cash gift we put it away, whenever I get paid we put it away and use his checks for bills and car insurance ect... We also were stressed about how to pay for it but we quickly started saving and for us we each have a credit card and then a joint line of credit that we can use if we aren't able to save up. We also don't go out as often and have a very strict budget we follow!
