Paper flower wall

Vinny, on September 21, 2016 at 15:31 Posted in DIY 0 4

I want to create a paper flower wall backdrop. How should I go about ensuring the stand can support the paper flowers? I need to assemble the flowers before the wedding day, transport it to the venue and have someone install it. Ideally, i want the back drop to be broken into smaller pieces so it can fit into a four door car..

I am also planning to do this! I wanted a way to add colour the room without breaking the budget on real flowers - I will still get real flowers for some areas of the room, but for what I want to do I'd probably have to go waaaaay over budget. My dad and I are just going to build a very simple, rectangular wooden frame with 2x4s and paint it white. Since I live up North and we'll need to transport it to Edmonton by a vehicle, we'll disassemble it after it's been built and painted, wrap up all the 2x4s in a tarp to protect them, then strap them to the top of our vehicle for the 14 hour or so drive (I'm not kidding - living up north has its disadvantages for sure!). If you keep the design very simple this shouldn't be too difficult to do I would think. To keep it from falling over from the weight of the flowers, be prepared to have some weighted bags or objects to place on the stand of the frame.

Also, check if your venue will accept some packages ahead of time, so that you send them some of your flowers to keep before the wedding... then they won't take up so much room in your house, garage or wherever you will keep them!

I was practicing making a few flowers and they definitely do take some time, so depending on how many you want you'll need to start way ahead of time. Start practicing now at least, then maybe wait until a month or so before to make the rest, depending on how long you think it will take you and try to enlist some friends and family to help if you like.

There are many ways to attach the flowers - I am going to try attaching a string or wire to the back of the flower and use very small command strip hooks. I am also thinking of hanging some flowers down from the top, so we are thinking a flat grosgrain ribbon might help to keep them from twisting around like a string might do.

I know I wrote a lot, but I hope some of it at least is helpful! Let me know if you have any others questions. This is all new to me too.

I'll add this too which has some different ideas that may or may not work for you:

I would also like to make some sort of flower wall! My friend gave me the idea to use wooden/plastic lattice as base to put the flowers and greenery on (see inspo photo below). I will probably have the lattice against the wall to hold it up. I hope this gives you some sort of idea! Smiley smile Hope this helps!

    Hey Vinny,

You'll DEFINITELY need to assemble the flowers before the wedding day, depending on what kind you are doing they can be rather time consuming! I would have the flowers made and strung and then just keep them in a box (or a few boxes) so they won't be damaged while transporting them. I'm not sure what to suggest for the poles though... sorry.

Be sure to post pictures when you're done/while working on them. I can't wait to see them!

Hi Vinny Smiley heart Welcome to the community!

I'm happy to read your post idea for DIY! I love the backdrop idea, it will make your wedding ceremony so unique!! Smiley love

I have different suggestions for your stand and backdrop. For the stand, I created this discussion to help you with different ideas to hold your backdrop.

DIY stands for a wedding backdrop

This also depends on different aspects about your wedding setting like... Where is your ceremony going to be?

Is it going to be inside or outside? Will it have a window? etc.

For the backdrop itself, depending on the stand you choose, I think I would recommend assembling the different strings of flowers on maybe 2 or 3 different strings. That way, on the wedding day, the person helping you only has to tie up 2 or 3 strings to the frame.

How big are going to be your flowers? And your backdrop? Smiley smile
