Out of Country/Province Bridesmaids & Family

Jasmine, on November 20, 2018 at 23:12 Posted in Before the wedding 0 5
Hi! I am a big traveller and just moved across the country to a new city with my fiancé. I do not have any friends or family here and am struggling to find ways to still do all the fun engagement type activities, like an engagement party, bridesmaid proposals, bachelorette party, etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions particularly on some sort of bridesmaids boxes or some sort of bridesmaid proposal that can be sent by mail and won’t be too costly to ship?

Any suggestions welcome and encouraged!!

I am in the same boat! We live in NS and our family is all in MB and ON. For the bachelorette we will do it the weekend before so my sister and some family can come and I will also invite some co workers. I didn't care about an engagement party or bridal shower so didn't mind skipping those. For the proposals I mailed small gifts, nothing too big just things I found online.

Definitely check out etsy for proposal boxes. and most sellers would send it where you need it sent.

I have 4 bridesmaids. one lives in another country (luckily only a 2.5 hour flight), 2 live in other cities from me. one in my city. while we wont get the ability to do a lot together. they are so responsive by phone calls/emails/group chat.

with that being said. i'm not even having a bridal shower (we have been together for 5 years. and I have been living on my own for 17 years. we need NOTHING house wise).

bachelorette wise. we are having one. and I left it up to the bridesmaids where we are going. and said I would chip in my flight cost. i'm also fortunate that my MOH (who is in another country) can afford to fly to us for a weekend. But I am also prepared that some of them may not make it (far away MOH, one BM is pregnant and due in the spring). and that is ok.

I am also in the same boat, we live in Calgary and our families/friends are in Ottawa. So to make things a lot easier (and cheaper) we decided to not have a wedding party! I asked my best friend to be my witness, with a cute card/mini proposal at xmas, when I was back in town.

We're also skipping most of the parties (engagement, shower) since we've been together for almost 8 years and don't really need anything.

That being said, I'm refusing to skip on the bachelorette party. My reason being that my 30th bday sorta sucked, so I want to make up for it haha. I'm organizing my own party, in Palm Springs, and told my girlfriends there'd be no hard feelings if they couldn't make it. I have enough Avion points for my flight there, and we'll be splitting the cost of a condo/house!

I would check out Etsy! I just made my own boxes, but you could see what is there and have it sent directly to the bridesmaids? Or depending where they are located maybe look for giftshops near them and see if they would be able to throw something together like that?

I am kind of in the same boat. I recently moved to a different province and all my close friends and family are either in AB or SK (I’m in Vancouver).

It’s impossible to get all of them together for the shower or stagette. Against everyone’s advice, I’m having my bridal shower 2 days before the wedding because most of my friends and family will already be in town. Everyone said I was crazy and I’ll regret it and who knows? Maybe I will but I wanted everyone there. My MIL and SIL were recommending having multiple bridal showed in different locations (one in AB, one in BC) so I could try and include everyone. Would that work for you? Are you travelling to where your bridal party lives? Can everyone arrange to get together?

As for the stagette, we are taking a trip to Disneyland. Of course, everyone wasn’t able to make it but seven of us will! It’s an excuse for everyone to travel and get together. Perhaps your group could do that?

As for the bridesmaid proposal, it was tough. Shipping costs are expensive BUT I did find a woman on Etsy who would ship the proposal boxes to different addresses. She would also sign the card accordingly to what you wanted. Unfortunately I can’t remember who the seller was but I’d suggest looking there under ‘bridesmaid proposal gifts.’

I hope some of this was helpful! Let us know how it goes.

    All the best 🙂
