Ontario Reopening Plan - O.reg 364/20

Ramsey, on June 24, 2021 at 08:37 Posted in Ontario 1 9

Hello all, getting married 8.21.2021.

Just wanted to share what I believe is the latest and greatest current regulations that apply to the Reopening Ontario Act. Now to preface this, these numbers may change, but according to what I could find on E-laws, these are the most up to date numbers allowed for the reopening. If anyone disagrees or I am misunderstanding, please let me know. I have bolded the important sections below.

Here's hoping these numbers can and will be increased further.

O.Reg 364/20 - RULES FOR AREAS IN STAGE 3:

https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/200364

Gatherings, Stage 3 areas

1. (1) Subject to subsection (2) and sections 2 to 5, no person shall attend,

(a) an organized public event of more than,

(i) 50 people if the event is held indoors, or

(ii) 100 people if the event is held outdoors;

(b) a social gathering of more than,

(i) 50 people if the gathering is held indoors, or

(ii) 100 people if the gathering is held outdoors; or

(c) a social gathering associated with a wedding, a funeral or a religious service, rite or ceremony of more than,

(i) 50 people if the gathering is held indoors, or

(ii) 100 people if the gathering is held outdoors.

(2) The following rules apply to an organized public event or social gathering held at a place described in subsection (2.1):

1. No person shall attend an organized public event held at the place of more than,

i. 10 people if the event is held indoors, or

ii. 25 people if the event is held outdoors.

2. No person shall attend a social gathering held at the place of more than,

i. 10 people if the gathering is held indoors, or

ii. 25 people if the gathering is held outdoors.

3. No person shall attend a social gathering associated with a wedding, a funeral or a religious service, rite or ceremony held at the place of more than,

i. 10 people if the gathering is held indoors, or

ii. 25 people if the gathering is held outdoors.

(2.1) The places referred to in subsection (2) are,

(a) residential buildings, including houses, apartment buildings, condominium buildings and post-secondary student residences; and

(b) any places not already described in clause (a), except for places that are operated in accordance with this Order by a business or organization.

(3) For greater certainty, the limits in clause (1) (c) and paragraph 3 of subsection (2) apply to a social gathering associated with a wedding, a funeral or a religious service, rite or ceremony, such as a wedding reception, while the limits that apply to the wedding, funeral or religious service, rite or ceremony itself are set out in sections 3 to 5.

(4) For the purposes of this section, an indoor event or gathering cannot be combined with an outdoor event or gathering so as to increase the applicable limit on the number of people at the event or gathering.

(5) A person attending an organized public event or social gathering shall comply with public health guidance on physical distancing.

(6) For greater certainty, subsections (1) to (5) apply with respect to an organized public event or social gathering even if it is held at a private dwelling.

Hank, you make an excellent point. Looking through the regulations again, I notice that 'Step 2' is now actually called 'Step 2' and not 'Stage 2' as it was referred to previously. This gives me some hope that these are being updated to the most current 'Step' program as mentioned by another user 'ASH' above (Step 2 updated yesterday).

Although this order has yet to be revoked, it's currently not important since we aren't in either 'step 3' or 'stage 3' yet.

Thank you for helping clarify, I will be checking the act daily to see if there are any changes.

People need to stop calling our current reopening as Stages and refer to them as Steps. For example, we're entering Step 2 on June 30, not Stage 2. I wish the government used better terminology because they should've known the general public would use the terms interchangeably.

The elaws Ramsey referenced is for the three stages of reopening after the first lockdown, which is why it references things like the colour coded zones. Ever since the new steps in the current reopening is introduced, all things from the colour coded zones are no longer valid.

Please note that quoted eLaw in the original post is from May 20, 2021, I don't think they have refreshed the Step 3 guidelines for weddings yet.

    The Step 2 guidelines were only added yesterday;

Oh my goodness. This is my scare since I have mine in October 16th and my list is at 68 total or so. This is frustrating. I am hoping it changes by then since people are being vaccinated.

Laura, from what I can gather from that same document:

    1) person attending an organized public event or social gathering shall comply with public health guidance on physical distancing.

    2) don't see any mention of dancing in the regulation.

    Thanks!

Any idea if there will be distancing restrictions? If 50 people are allowed indoors, will dancing be allowed? I'm getting frustrated at trying to read the government's mind and decide if we should keep our venue & catering, or just do a drop-in at a patio.
