Officiant M.I.A. 3 Months After Wedding & No Update on Marriage Certificate

Stephanie, on November 21, 2018 at 02:22 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 8
It's been over 3 months since our wedding and I've emailed/texted/called (but no answer)/left voice mails for my officiant over the past week and they are no replying to me. I hired them through their own business for my wedding.. Though I know they are the official officiants for another venue, I called that venue to see if he was on vacation or something had happened. Turns out they are fine and that the secretary would pass on the message for them to call me back.

I'm at this point where being nice isn't going to get me anywhere anymore. I had already paid them in full as per contract. What sort of recourse should I take at this time?

SO glad to hear that everything is working out for you in the end. It's frustrating when we put our trust in people and have to go through these extra steps in order to get something done (that should have been done properly the first time!).

    UPDATE

I don't know if I can edit my original post. But after sending a final strongly but well worded email to them. They replied within minutes saying that they are on vacation. Hilarious part is that when I called the venue they work for a day ago (after all the emails, texts and voicemails I left) the venue said, "Oh! Ya! They're here! They're not on vacation at all, as a matter of fact they just officiated a wedding too! Why?" So I know for a fact that they are just lying through their teeth in an attempt to save face.

Kind of sad that I need to be aggressive in my email to get a response. But atleast now I know that they are getting my marriage certificate in order (even though this is months late, and in their contract they stated that they'd get it done in 48 hours after the wedding)

Eeps this sucks. I kind of agree with the others... If "passing on the message" doesn't get a response by Friday, I'd pretend to be a new couple and see if they respond.

Sorry I think I was just so angry last night that I forgot to put a piece of detail. They were to file for my marriage certificate within 48 hours of us being married. But I don't think they ever did, cause when I did a search on the Service Ontario site for a status update using my name, my husbands name and our wedding date - it pulls up nothing.

As per our contract, they specified that they would apply for the marriage certificate in 48 hours then provide us with a reference number to follow up and then it should be complete within 12 weeks.

Up to now, still no response from them.

Geez!!! bad service on their part. I like the idea of calling and pretending to be someone else.

possibly they sent in your marriage certificate for you and didn't tell you. not sure if you are able to call the ministry to see if its been received at all?

part of our contract is our officiant sending in all our paperwork for us. so you never know.

Yes, Tori! That is the right thing to do. Call as a prospective client and I am sure you will receive a call back. Perhaps have your husband call if they know your voice. But I’d definitely do this.

Get the information of the officiant from the venue and let them know you want to deal with them directly. You need to get the marriage certificate online done. This seems odd and a scam if this venue works with the officiant getting away with this.

Wow, that is ridiculously unprofessional but before you go and give them a bad review - which I would do if I were in your shoes...

I would first see if they have any office space that you could go to, then I would just keep calling. I would only leave one or two messages and after that I would leave a message as if I am a potential client (on a different phone of course) and see if they call me back. That's when you trap them! They already have you money but they may be more eager to contact a potential couple..
