Odd rant, but my wedding theme drives me nuts now!

Allison, on December 2, 2019 at 14:12 Posted in Just married 0 13

Before I get too into it, I want to say I still loved how our theme turned out for our wedding (peacock, tropical) and if I had to do it all again, I'd choose that theme in a heartbeat.

However, now everyone I know has this idea that Everything Peacock is my thing, and so whenever someone sees something on Facebook/amazon/etc that remotely relates to peacocks, I'm either tagged or getting a message about it, or my DH is getting messages asking if I'd like ___ item for Christmas.

It's starting to drive me nuts honestly! I understood when people did it while we were planning our wedding, because that was our theme and some things they mentioned (i.e. a Tiffany lamp) we ended up using, others we didn't. But now that the wedding is over, it's still happening! Again, I get where people are coming from, they know I do like peacocks, but it's starting to get excessive, and believe when I say I have lots of peacock decor I've re-purposed in my home. We're so much more than our wedding theme - we like other stuff!

Did anyone else have this issue when their wedding was over? I feel like it'll die down eventually, I just thought it would've died down when the wedding was done. I'm getting tired of trying to let people down easy ("While we/I do love peacock decor, we have lots left over from the wedding so we do not need anymore at this time").

I also like pineapples, but don't tell people because it'll takeover my house (already has a little!). I'm gonna try and stop mentioning it/mention other things (might sacrifice the pineapples) and see how it goes.

I think it's slightly different because it's tied to a sentimental event so people might be thinking "she'll like this peacock lamp/statue/etc. because peacocks were at her wedding and how could she hate them?!" You definitely dodged a bullet by not having your wedding like mine lol Smiley tongue

It dies down if you let it!! We didn't have this problem in regards to our wedding - since we didn't go with a theme but rather our fav. colours - but for a while there I was SO into pineapples that it was even a major gift at my wedding shower Smiley tongue I figure that if you stop mentioning it or start mentioning other things you like then it will go away in a couple months :/

It seems to start that way! As I mentioned, I really liked butterflies when I was a kid. It started when I wanted to be one for halloween and got those fabric wings. I wanted to wear them everywhere and people picked up that I really liked them... until I got sick of them!

Everyone you know will always want to get you something peacock colours or item because you love it and its easy for them to get you that particular design. I would put peacocks are nice though other things in life are always welcome to enjoy. Always appreciate the thought/gesture, time for new things to enjoy.

I use to like cows. My whole kitchen had something to do with cows because I couldn't tell people enough lol. It's not that way now. Not even sure how it stopped.

Ooh I feel you on this one. I'm the "cat lady" with our friends, because I have two cats and I love them. I get tagged in cat things all the time, which is great when they are cute kitty videos, but seriously, I've had it up to HERE with the crazy lonely cat lady jokes and tags!! I get where the jokes come from because, yeah, I think cats are great, but jeez, I don't need 4 people to tag me in the same cat joke on Facebook! And if you've sent me a cat post on instagram three days after it was posted, just assume that 5 other people already sent it to me...

That's true, looking back when I was growing up, I was into butterflies. Everything was butterflies and then I got sick of it everywhere. I kept some of it (e.g. a poster), others I grew out of (so many t shirts), and others I got rid of.

I'd also have another "thing" to obsess over and the cycle would repeat. I think part of it was I was "obsessing" over peacocks for 2 years for the wedding, and now people know I obviously liked it, but I still have other interests. It's also very sentimental to me too now, and it's still fresh in people's minds.

Maybe I should find something else to obsess on now, and maybe it'll pick up lol

I didn't have this issue with the wedding, but I did in life. I love owls. A few years ago owls were everywhere and my now almost MIL bought be owl sheets, an owl necklace, and owl pajamas all in the same year.
Eventually it goes away. Your wedding is probably still very fresh in people's minds, and if you make a point of telling a few people the word will spread.
