October wedding - how to move forward (ontario)

Kate, on September 20, 2020 at 01:57 Posted in Ontario 0 6

Hi everyone,

For those of you planning October weddings, how are you moving forward with new restrictions? I’m so torn. We cancelled our original plans for earlier this year and planned for a small backyard wedding of 27 people (in a tent with heaters). My plan was to seat couples 6ft apart and require masking when not seated/eating, and no dancing. I was so confident in our plans and efforts and now I don’t know what to do. We were thinking of pairing our guest list down to just family and wedding party - which would leave us at 15 people. However, this would mean uninviting people.

I can’t fathom cancelling again and planning a third wedding, but I also want to be safe. I’m curious what other Ontario brides are handling this.

If it’s within the 6ft apart rule I would call around and see if there’s a way you can move it to an outdoor space that’s run by staff. When we met with vendors the other day, it was still the old limits of 100 outside and 50 inside if it is staffed. I wonder if there is a way to make your wedding legal by staffing it? If you had to hire someone to be present to run things behind the scenes maybe that would make it legal? Maybe a day of wedding planner? I don’t know if they are what constitute ‘staffed’ but I would definitely look into options! I know it’s an added expense I’m just thinking of the sadness for you having to cancel again 🙈

We have our date set for February 14. Venue booked, invites and dress purchased. No matter what....I am marrying the man of my dreams on February 14. We will invite who we can and uninvite as we must. I'm stressed about stressing and just want to marry him. My point is...you're getting married! What will be...will be...

I did what you mentioned you didn't want to do - I cancelled for a SECOND time and have re-planned a wedding for June of next year.

I had the original date of July 18th 2020 then changed to October 9th 2020, now June 18th 2021.

It was a very hard decision for me but I need to have certain people their and restrictions would not allow that for me.

I'm glad you're willing to consider the safety aspects, despite being within the legal limits. I know it sucks to postpone a second time, but if having all your family and friends with you is important, then I think that's the only option. That being said, I think we're in it for the long haul during this second wave. First time around was when winter was finishing. Now, fall has just begun and it's only going to get worse.

HI Hank, you're right, I think that certainly may happen. However, it's so hard to anticipate timing of this. I suppose we could give it a few days and see if anyone cancels. If not, we'll have to look into cutting numbers ourselves.

However, I'm still feeling torn around safety. Even though we would be within the restriction limits, does it mean that we should move forward with it? I know that's a question only me and my partner can really answer.

Considering the increase in cases, have you considered that two or more people may pull out? If so, that puts you within limits.
If you have to uninvite guests due to provincial orders, I think they'll understand.
