Non traditional buffet!

Chantell, on February 21, 2020 at 12:19 Posted in Wedding reception 0 17
Opinions needed ! So my uncle is a chef and as our wedding gift he has agreed to run our buffet ! All we have to do is help prep the food a few days before , and pay for the cost of the food . After Pinteresting for a few days I have decided I want something totally out of the norm for food. I saw an idea for a gourmet burger buffet with awesome toppings , and supper yummy comfort food sides ( home style Mac and cheese, baked beans, etc ). All displayed super cute.

First What are some of your FAVOURITE comfort foods ? And if you say this at a wedding would your impression be “awe cute” or “ oh cheap”

Omg a burger buffet would be so cute & creative! You should definitely go for it and get creative with the toppings! Smiley smile

Lol it seemed like a good idea. We are laid back and so is the rest of our wedding party so I think it will be a fun idea. And I bet lol! Kids much prefer food like this. And if people are worried they can cut up their burger to eat too.

That's exactly it. And I personally love myself a loaded poutine or burger as well. And for a fun photo op I told my fiance we should get fun bibs or something to wear while we eat 😂. And also we have two kids ourselves and they will be much happier with that as well.

That’s exactly how we got to this choice. My FH is unbelievably picky so this way he can have everything he likes! Plus the kids will all be rest happy

We are pretty sure this is what we are doing for ours and we are in a hotel setting even. My fiance is not a fan of meat and potato meals and so we figured why serve it for our wedding. So we are leaning towards a build your own burger and build your own poutine bar with some salads!

    I love this idea!

For comfort sides with burgers I would think mac and cheese, potato wedges (they get less soggy than fries), sweet potato fries, pasta salad, and a green salad for the low carb guests (keto people are everywhere 😳). I would also seek out a really good BBQ sauce (or two) for the burgers 🤤 with maybe a few cheese options (cheddar, swiss, mozza).

I personally prefer eating with utensils instead of holding something with my bare hands at any formal function. Sticky hands and formal wear does not mesh with me hahaha.

If you want the idea of customization, I suggest a fry/poutine bar, mac and cheese bar, burrito/sushi bowls etc. These are all foods that don't require additional cooking at the buffet and can be customized with various toppings.

Of course! We had an open bar as well and with my Husband being older (29) all of his friends have built up quite the tolerance for alcohol! 😂

For our wedding we had Danny's Whole Hog BBQ ($20/person including dessert) and then late night snack was hot dogs and s'mores!

Tacos, Pierogi, Mac n Cheese, Pizza, Grilled Cheese.... It sounds amazing! I like that it's different from the typical wedding meal.

Awe cute and its a nice idea for guests to put what they like as they get their burger. Pasta is a comfort food that is enjoyable too as well as beans for alternative protein choice. Its nice your uncle is gifting you the buffet for your wedding.

Haha I feel like I will need to fill everyone’s tummy with carbs . We are having an open bar and small town people can drink ! Plus my FH played junior hockey and his friends can get a bit wild . Hopefully if we put some super yummy food in front of then they won’t get AS crazy

First I want to say I would be fully on board with it and say YAAAASSSSS!!! I also had BBQ at my wedding and everybody LOVED it and was 10/10 better than dry chicken or beef with dry potatos and bland veggies. Nobody said anything about it being cheap - just that it was amazing.

My favourites: Mac & Cheese, French Fries, Mashed potatoes and gravy, and scalloped potatoes. I know, a lot of carbs... but hey, it's what I like!
