No officiants in the community!

Catherine, on May 18, 2018 at 13:51 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 5
We are getting married in Squamish, bc in September this year. we searched the bc website for offiants and there were only 4 in Squamish and none of them can do it. Apparently legally hey have to be a part of the Squamish community to marry you. We have a friend speaking for us but she is not ordained so we just need someone to say a few words to make it official. we don’t want to sign the papers the day before or next ideally.
Any suggestions or alternate ways to go about this?! Or does anyone have a random friend In Squamish who is ordained who can help us out?!? Lol

I'm in this boat too (using a Burnaby officiant, and being limited to that list), I'm still 8 months out though so I'm going to lock one down ASAP.... If they are all busy, I would contact a Govt Services office directly and ask what the alternative option is if all 4 officiants are booked. I would imagine they should allow you to branch to the next closest district, with the possibility of a fee for additional travel...

You also may have to consider hiring an officiant service... they are more expensive than the $75 gov't approved ones... but if it's your only option, you might need to go in that direction.

Someone recommended her in the local buy and sell wedding group. Look up a Vancouver one and maybe you'll find someone there.

There are a bunch in vancouver and I got an email back from one and she said
You will need to contact a commissioner who lives in Squamish ( as mandated by BC Vital Statistics)”
i feel like that can’t be the case especially since there are only 4 officiants registered in Squamish thru the bc gov website. I feel like it shouldn’t be this hard lol

Maybe look outside of Squamish, some officiants will travel to the next town or so, usually for an extra fee but they will still do it. I know Vancouver is a bit far but my officiant is traveling almost the same distance for our wedding so maybe you'll find a Vancouver one that will do it.
