I just want to get some opinions but we are thinking of just having our own playlist at the wedding and skip having a DJ? Is this a bad plan? We have music friends that will help us out with the playlist, we are just trying to find a way to save costs so we can do better food or drinks?! Help...

And if anyone else did this did it work?

Thanks in advance!

That is a great idea! Honestly what would work best- my friends didn't do it and caused issues. Is to have playlist saying OUR SONG, another for 100 best hits and if you go through that I would play plan b playlist. They literally downloaded 14 hours of song of songs that weren't really dancing songs and let it play. I would just see if your music friends could help you organize songs. What I was told by the dj I hired was they do 8 songs to see the crowd then they basicly realize what is liked- but because people telling you, I would do a few good dancing songs and every 5 songs a slow dance song to keep everyone happy.

Thank you I appreciate that feedback, we are still discussing it, we were thinking of having everyone invited reply on our wedding site with 2-3 songs that they love and making a playlist based off that. I just don’t want not having a DJ to ruin that part of my wedding and evening as I love to dance haha

I definitely understand wanting to cut costs places. I can tell you what I have experienced based on a guest attending both with a dj or without a dj.

With DJ- it honestly depends if they hire a decent one who can read a crowd. I have went ot weddings where the dj was told to play certain songs but I personally wasnt a fan of the music at all that night and I have went where they have good music and I have danced lots.

Without DJ- I have went to two weddings where they did it 100% based on playlists they made and no one was dancing- people would go up choose song they liked then they would dance to that song and leave dance floor after.

I would rather keep the dj from experiences and cut costs on decor or somewhere else
