No catering?

Feya, on June 25, 2018 at 10:18 Posted in Wedding reception 0 20
Am I the only one who thinks catering is a waste?
I think I'm going to just order a ton of pizzas from a gourmet pizza place because pizza is a very meaningful food to my fiance and I (we eat it about 3-4 times a week).
I just want to know other's thoughts on it

I love the phrase “comfort foods” because that’s essentially what we’re doing too!

We are having a “brunch” buffet (covid willing next year...) at dinnertime. We both LOVE breakfast food, used to go out for brunch every weekend before Covid, it’s cheaper, and we figure it’ll be very memorable. Who will remember how great your chicken was? But everyone will remember heaping their plate with waffles and bacon at a wedding (or pizza or tacos! So fun!!)

We are self catering! We are making tacos! Easy to make in bulk, and fairly cheap in comparisonSmiley smile

We are doing pizza for our late lunch! I think a lot of people are more impressed with comfort foods than fancy sit-down dinners

I find catering a waste too. It works if you're pressed for time and people to help prepare.

I have a small wedding party so we are mostly doing the food ourselves with the help of my MIL and her sister. However I'm considering doing some catering for the warm foods.

If it screams you and your fiance then I say go for it. I will be having an outdoor wedding and our food is going to be from Danny's Whole Hog. The whole chicken and mashed potatoes and beef is just not us - and instead of paying $50 a plate we will be paying less than $20 a plate.

Since I've been vegan before I'll definitely make sure to include vegan pizza and gluten free pizza for those who can't have them ^^

I agree with the general consensus, it's your wedding, you can totally do what you want. I like the idea of gourmet pizzas, perhaps make sure you have some sort of warming station? or something to keep the boxes warm (as I'm assuming every single pizza won't be out and open at the same time).

Also, pasta, and some salad, would be a great balance in case some people want a choice. Also I would check for allergies (dairy and gluten), because you might have guests that can't eat the pizza at all.

I think there are super cute ways to do pizza for dinner, just like Marcia showed in those photos. Having different height tiers, and some signage, is a way to "glam up" a more casual meal.

If you want pizza, have pizza. I don't think you absolutely need to have something super fancy for dinner or something traditional. Do your wedding, your way!

If it suits your wedding, why not? I think pizza can be appropriate if it's a backyard party or something else casual.

I think the salads and pastas are the way to go, it'll definitely add a touch of class to the pizza without making it overly formal, thank you for the suggestion.

It would depend on what you are going for with your wedding. If you want it to be a more formal event then yeah pizza may not be the best. But if you want a more relaxed feel go ahead. You could also look for places that would also do large portions of pasta, salads maybe add good bread and have yourself a casual Italian buffet. Add in some appetizers and you are set.

Ive also seen some places that will cater a bbq type meal for a lot less then other types of meals as well. Think outside the box and look at other food options other then traditional wedding caterers. I’ve heard of some people getting food trucks as well. But that may not work for a larger number of people.

I don't really want to do a full out formal black tie wedding
I'm thinking of doing "white tie" because the wedding has a vintage theme though.
Would pizza clash with that? It's not going to be dominos or anything, there's a gourmet pizza place where my fiance lives so I'm probably going to order about 12 or so different pizzas from them.

The only issues I would have with pizza is if it was a formal black tie affair. If your wedding is much more layed back and not going overly formal than it could definitely work. Not everyone needs or wants the big formal sit down dinner.

Well when you think about it ordering pizza is kind of a form of catering Smiley smile . I mean really all catering is paying someone to get the food ready for you. I think catering is worth it for large parties just so people don’t have to do the work or preparing the food, which can be a lot. But again pizza counts, you aren’t making it yourself. And yes if that’s what you want to do it’s totally acceptable.

Catering doesnt always have to be a fancy dinner. And sure for smaller events, or something where you’re not serving a full meal diy food is good if you have people to help you.

It is!!! $80 a person for one meal?
I'm planning a wedding here not taking everyone out to a super fancy restaurant lol
Seems like the consensus is that a lot of the meals from caterers aren't that tasty anyways, which another reason I decided to do pizza. Everyone likes it to some extent.
I'm just scared it'll seem tacky
