Nervous about engagement pictures

Peggy, on June 21, 2018 at 10:19 Posted in Before the wedding 0 11

Well, we had our engagement session last Saturday. Our photographer said she'd have our sneak peek done by the end of this weekend. We've become friends with our photographer over the last several months since we first met her and hired her. My logical brain is sure that everything is fine, but my anxious bride brain is all 'EEEEK!'.

My anxiety is mounting with each day that passes - what if I don't like the pictures? What if they're terrible, and not because of anything I can control (outfits, etc)? How do I tell her? What if, what if, what if!

I know it's probably needless worry but I had to get it out, and I figured the folks here would understand!

We got our proofs today - I am SO excited, and SO relieved. I am in love with so many of these shots. I knew in my head I didn't have to worry but my heart/anxiety didn't listen.

I'm sure you're all right and I have nothing to worry about but it's in my nature. I'm sure the two months before our wedding will be a nightmare for my fiance to deal with me, in general.

Once I get the proofs, I'll share them here.

Well, the good news if they're not what you're looking for is that this is technically a trial for the wedding. If you are unhappy with the photos (I'm sure you'll love them though) you can try to work with your photographer to get something a little more "your style". A small photoshoot is generally not overly expensive, but I think it would definitely be worth the extra couple hundred dollars for you to really find what works for you.

That being said you picked your photographer for a reason, right? Because you liked her work? I'm sure you have absolutely nothing to worry about 😊

It's understandable to worry, but your photographer is a professional and I'm sure she captured you at your best angle, in the best lighting, etc.

If you end up not liking them, be honest with her without being too critical of her and/or yourself! I'm sure she wouldn't be opposed to redoing them if you're sincerely unhappy with them for reasons beyond both of your control.

Honestly when we first got our photos back my brain was automatically in negative mode looking for the ones I didn't like and there were quite a few - but most of the time due to my own pettiness (didn't like my expression, my leg looked awkward, etc). So needless to say I started to get a little upset but then I took a deep breath and went through them again and picked out the ones I did like... and it turns out there were more I liked than didn't!

My advice as a result - If you get them back and go in with the mindset of looking for things you don't like, you will find them. Switch it around and look for the ones you do like as a whole or even just certain elements. This will also help experience-wise when it comes to having your wedding photos taken

Breathe my dear, it will be fine and enjoy those special moments captured!

Funny you mention that - we had a friend do our engagement photos when we first got engaged last year in August. I -hated- them. Never said anything to my friend; when we hired our wedding photographer and it came with an engagement shoot, I jumped at the chance to redo them!

You hired your photographer because you like her style. I am guessing she had a portfolio of pictures you've went through and loved. I am sure they turned out amazing and you will feel so much relief once you have them. Trust your vendors, your hired them for a reason Smiley smile

Breath in. Breath out. lol, I have only made a point of asking my friend to take my engagement photo's and I'm already feeling these kind of worries! I'm sure it will be great, and if not - burn them. Burn them all. And of course get new ones Smiley tongue

Your photographer will edit the pictures to the best detail and let you know which pictures look good and get them to you. Don't feel nervous as she is looking out for your best shots.

If she’s a professional, she knows what she’s doing. Relex. Distract yourself with something else. Take your mind off it. Worrying about it it’s going to do any good.

I had the same feelings about our engagement photos and they turned out really well! I think it is just that us brides want everything to be perfect. I'm sure your pictures will be gorgeous!!
