My wedding vendors in cobourg (and other places)

Erin, on March 14, 2017 at 10:34 Posted in Ontario 0 1

Hi all!

So my vendor situation was a little different than most as I live 3 hours away from where I am getting married. As such, my vendors are a little all over the place. I have looked into I don't know how many vendors for a whole bunch of different things. Here is what we have booked so far:

Caterer - King's Plate Catering (Cobourg area)

I found the name of this caterer through a local hotel's page. They had a "friends of ..." page that listed a bunch of local companies they associate with for different events. When we contacted Darren, the owner and caterer, he was very nice and helpful. We arranged a tasting, which went very well, and we discussed menu options as we have several people with allergies. He said the he would have no problem accommodating anything from lactose intolerance to celiac disease (both of which we have to contend with at our wedding). When we said that we wanted to bring our own desserts because we aren't having cake, Darren had no problem with this and said that he would have no problem serving it and there would be no charge. He also said that he would take care of all the dishware rentals as he knows what he needs and works with a local company. He wants to a venue visit with us in the spring so he can get a feel for the place as we are getting married on private property and some of the event will be outdoors. He was very thorough and professional and I would recommend him to anyone in the area. If you would like more information or a sample menu, visit his site King's Plate Catering - http://kingsplate.ca/index.html

Encore Tents (http://www.encoretents.com/)

This is the company our caterer deals with for all his rentals. They have an amazing selection of rentals from dishware and linens to decor and dance floors and of course tents. They have pictures up of most things which is very helpful and also have pricing and a pricing planner available. We found the planner very helpful in giving ourselves a rough estimate of how much the rentals would cost. Their site is also very easy to navigate and not cluttered like some other rental sites we looked at. It is local to the Cobourg area as well.

I Love You Past Heaven (http://www.iluph.com/)

This company is located in Ottawa but will send rentals out as far as Montreal and Cornwall and Brockville. Their site is missing a lot of pictures (apparently they are working on that) but they were very helpful when we asked for some to be sent to us via e-mail regarding specific items. We had an initial quote drawn up and when we had some significant changes we wanted to speak to someone and they were quick to respond and set up a time for us to call. We spoke with Kim who was very helpful, professional and kind. She was quick to send us an update quote and with some additional pictures we requested. Lots of choice and great prices!

Phoenix Transportation (http://charter.phoenixbus.ca/)

As our venue is about 20 minutes from the closest hotel we thought it would be a good idea to hire some transportation to and from the venue for our guests. We looked into a bunch of different companies and ended up with Phoenix. We were able to correspond with them via e-mail and they were pretty quick with their responses. We were able to find out cost and payment expectations as well. All in all a very helpful experience.

Portable toilets - Johnson Septic Service (http://johnsonsepticservice.ca/)

As we're getting married in the country, we found it necessary to rent portable toilets as the septic system of the house wouldn't be able to handle the amount of guests. When we contacted them concerning our wedding they gave us a few options from which to choose and make a decision. We decided on the plain white, what they call their wedding portable toilets. They were very well priced and easy to contact. They told us the day they would be delivered and picked up and how much it would all cost. Very good experience!

Officiant (http://aeicweddings.com/aeicweddings/About_Us.html)

I contacted several officiants I found through WeddingWire but they were all unavailable for my date. Then, I saw one of the officiants from this company on the WeddingWire site. I cannot remember the person's name but I think they didn't service my area so I went to the site. They have a very large team that services much of Southern Ontario and can perform ceremonies in a multitude of languages. We e-mailed the company for their availability and they were very quick to respond. All of their e-mails were very enthusiastic and helpful. Once we told them where we were getting married they put us in touch with their officiant that serves that region. We corresponded for a while via e-mail and then we were able to chat on Skype. Our officiant was very kind and open to our suggestions and ideas as to how we wanted our wedding to go. I look forward to working with her further.

We have family friends who will be our photographers and we are just having a DIY DJ for the evening. I haven't yet booked hair and makeup (eek!) or flowers but that is next on my list.

As I am getting married in a smaller city, I have found that there aren't as many vendors posted on websites like WeddingWire and stuff. I am hopefully going to help change that just a little Smiley smile I hope this has helped someone else even just a little bit.

I will probably update this post once more things are booked! Best of luck to all the other brides and grooms out there! Smiley smile
