Music limit: Venue has strict decibel limit

Kendall, on August 1, 2019 at 14:33 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5
Hey!

I’m looking for advice. My venue contract says there is a strict decibel limit of 85 decibels “as measured by the hotels dB meter and measured at a location of the hotels discretion”

Is 85dB lame?? Do you think this can be discreetly stretched to 90dB? I’ve done research and sound goes up by 20x every 10 decibels. So from 80-90dB, is a big difference. I’m just wondering if other venue contracts had this in their contracts.

Thank you for the the advice!

What a coincidence that you are getting married in NOTL! I was going to suggest to do a silent party, they are really popular in NOTL where the noise bylaw requires things to be shut down by 11pm. These headphones are the latest and our DJ also does a loooot of NOTL weddings. https://liquidentertainment.ca/silent-events/ check it out Smiley smile hope it provides another option!

Like Michelle said - I just did a google search (thank god for google!) and it says that a lawnmower is about 90 and to me you can't yell over the lawnmower very much so 85 should be fine!

With a quick google search it looks like the average nightclub decibel level is 92, you probably won't want your wedding music to be that loud anyway especially if you have older guests who might prefer chatting to being on the dance floor.
