Menu choices

Rayanne, on January 17, 2022 at 12:35 Posted in Wedding reception 1 17
When we booked our venue FH was really excited about the tasting before the wedding. I didn't really realize how much until covid hit and they told us that it would most likely be impossible to work it in before the wedding.

Then we once again had to reschedule and they have promised that the tasting will happen. (Date still tbd.) So we are looking forward again to being able to try some of the options rather than going into just on trust.
Anyone who had a tasting did you pretty much know what you wanted before you got there? Were you surprised because you chose something totally different? We picked our meal but I wonder if this will actually make a difference in our menu. When we first booked cheesecake was not a dessert option but it is now so I think that will be what we go with.
Did you go with the standard menu? We're you looking for something different? Did culture have anything to do with your choices?

It was a lot of fun!!
My fiancé and I have a one year old so it was our first date in over a year! Haha
Our caterer was so awesome in person and answered all our questions! We picked the two choice meats and our caterer came up with the rest! I was pleasantly surprised with everything! It went together so nicely and was very gourmet high end food that I can’t even remember the names of!!! Lol 😂
Tenderloin with a sauce they cook for 12 hours and mashed potatoes with asparagus Salmon with some sort of rice Palaf (don’t know how to spell it lol) some sort of spouts and mixed carrots Hot rolls Dessert we chose some sort of cherry dropping brownie Clearly I’m not chef 😂 but it was the best food I’ve tasted in a long time!! Can’t wait for our day!

Our reception meal consisted of a salad, a starter, and an entree with a side of vegetables and starch. For our tasting, we had a choice of two salads and starters, and four entrees to try. It was an amazingly filling meal for two people, made nicer due to it being our first date eating out in 2021 since the first half of the year in Ontario was under lockdown with no on-site dining.

Here were our choices (with final pick highlighted in bold)

SOUP: Tuscan Soup with Tortellini vs Thai Curry Ginger and Carrot (we ultimately axed the soup and went with a rocket salad with apples, mushrooms, goat cheese, and bacon instead due to the season)

APPETIZER: Assorted Seafood over Seaweed Salad and Sesame Noodles vs Proscuitto and Pumpkin Risotto

ENTREES: Arctic Char with Chardonnay Sauce vs Prime Rib with Gravy vs Burgundy Braised Short Rib vs Sirloin with Mustard Sauce (we went with the short rib as the beef choice because you can't overcook it)

STARCH: Creamy Risotto vs Dauphinoise Potatoes vs Garlic Mash Potatos vs Grain Pilaf

VEG: Curry Cauliflower vs French Beans vs Rapini in Balsamic vs Rosemary Roasted Root Veg

Here are some pictures from the tasting

    Menu choices 1

And here is what our wedding night meal looked like. Because one guy no-showed, we got an extra rib to go and it was SO good as lunch the next day.

    Menu choices 2

We weren't able to sample anything for the cocktail hour but based on description, we went with a peking duck wrap, mini salmon burger, mini beef wellington, and a turkey carving station with stuffing.

We drove all the way 10 hours out of province for our taste testing we have on the 19th lol ( we also have family there so it worked out)
I’m so interested and excited to see how everything goes!
We chose our menu but just the basics like tenderloin and salmon then two starches two salads and two vegetables melodys and two gourmet deserts! But no specific food choice yet!I have no clue if he’s just going to make us a bunch of food and we pick? Lol Everytime we’ve chatted on the phone I can tell he’s in a hurry and has to go so I don’t have time to ask many questions… but I will let you know what happens in a couple days!!

We unfortunely can't have a tasting since we're out of province and I'm not driving 10 hours just for food lol I've been at the winery many times before for lunch and wine tours and we've gotten amazing food so I'm very confident that the food will be outstanding.

We got our menu options last month and we have decided on what they call the "Pyramid Buffet Menu" It includes: Assortment of Breads and Butter, Charred Vegetable and Grain Salad, Garden Green Salad, Grilled Vegetable Antipasto Platter, Carved Char-Grilled Beef Striploin, Citrus Butter Based Lingcod, Butternut Squash Ravioli, Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Garden Vegetables & Assortment of Chef's Mini Desserts!

They definitely are! The restaurant we went with was $3-6 cheaper per person with way more food!

Sounds so good. We have their grand antipasto for our cocktail hour. I'm so excited about that. I am definitely a grazer and I love bread and cheese anything on an antipasto tray really ☺. Our late night has pizzas, poutine, fresh fruit and wedding cupcakes. Which all sound really good too....It so much food I'm not sure I'll be able to try everything.

We were lucky to have our tasting before the pandemic - it was such a fun event hosted by our venue. Unfortunately, some of the options we were leaning towards were not commonly picked so we couldn't taste them. We took the risk with the tuna steak and WOW did it ever pay off. We also easily stuck to our initial plan with beef wellington (amaaazing) and went with a crowd pleaser vegetarian cheese cannelloni. We didn't get to taste the soups but the salads were nothing exciting so we went with a maple butternut squash (winter wedding) and for dessert we wanted the spread but due to covid we chose one (and we had cake) - dark chocolate grand Marnier mousse with a Nanaimo bar ontop. We also had a variety of hot and cold canapes for cocktail hour. We and our guests still can't stop talking and thinking about the food. Our goal was to choose menu items that guests would generally not make themselves and every choice would be more elegant and special. We also asked them to make a homemade mac and cheese for the midnight snack instead of their options because that's tradition for us on new years day 💜. YUM!

Me too!! Their food is delicious and it's an added bonus that they are one of the cheapest options!

We booked a local BBQ restaurant for our wedding so we had tried their food before and we were pretty sure on what we were going to pick.
Originally we were planning on doing smoked chicken and pulled pork OR brisket with Ceasar salad, smashed potatoes and roasted veg for sides.
When we got to our tasting we found out we actually got 5 sides in their wedding package. It's also only $2 more per person to have 3 meats so were getting smoked chicken, pulled pork and brisket! One of their side options that surprised me was a southern mustard coleslaw. I don't normally like coleslaw or mustard but I did enjoy this. So our sides are Ceasar salad, smashed potatoes, roasted veg, southern mustard coleslaw and Mac & cheese!
