Are you getting your DJ to MC the wedding, like making the grand entrance or announcing events/games? If so, I would highly get some face to face time (or at the very least a phone call) with the person who will be working your event. You can usually tell by the voice or body language how well they will do in a public speaking setting. They're meant to hype the room and sometimes they can be an excellent DJ in playing music but not so much in MCing.

A lot of companies just have you dealing with a point person assigning events to their roster of DJ but you want to get a vibe of your actual DJ in case you have any concerns. In our case, the customer service for our DJ was excellent but not so much the performance by the actual person on the day of.

We booked the DJ that does the events for my theatre company, but these are some questions we wrote up when we attended a wedding expo.

    1. Have you done events at my ceremony and/or reception location before? If not, are you familiar with them

    2. Can you describe a typical wedding event and how you interact with guests?

    3. What is your backup plan for both DJs and equipment?

    4. Do you have a code of conduct? (What do you wear? What is your policy on smoking or drinking during the event?)

    5. Tell me about your equipment setup

    6. What is the transition plan for ceremony to reception (if applicable).

    7. How do you handle music during breaks you need to take (for dinner, restroom)?

    8. What are your overtime charges? Are there any additional charges? (e.g., travel, special music requests, set-up, tear down)

    9. How do you handle a crowd that doesn't want to dance?

    10. What if we hate the song you're playing?

    11. Why do you like DJing weddings?

    12. What is your preferred style of music?

    13. How do you handle crowd requests?

    14. Can we give you our own music or YouTube videos to pull music from?

    15. What sort of interactions do you have with a crowd?
