Medical Test Prior to Marriage

Mary, on May 27, 2019 at 13:58 Posted in Before the wedding 0 7
Has anyone done medical test prior to their marriage? If so, what were they? I know that genetic test is really important. Do you plan to do it?

I see having the test for familiar relations but i honestly have a hard time understanding the gentic part of it. So if either one were a carrier for genetic disease would you still marry each other? Once you become pregnant you have the option to have non evasive gentic testing if you so choose. We won't be doing any testing prior to marriage.

Way back in the day my parents had to get a blood test in order to get their marriage license, but that's now almost entirely obsolete in most of the US. DH and I didn't have to do any tests. May I ask what test you're being asked to take?

I’ve only heard of this test happening if you’re getting married in another country and they require proof that the couple isn’t related to one another.

My FH and I aren’t doing this particular test. It’s not necessary for us. I have had my own set of tests done for health reasons and I know I am able to have a child; if for whatever reason my FH isn’t able to have children we would not end our marriage over it.

these types of questions are definitely a great discussion for any couple though!

We didn’t. I’m an immigrant and my fiancé’s family originated from an entirely different place than mine so relation is non existent and we don’t really need to get medically tested. We’re both relatively healthy and on the chance we can’t have children genetically we’d adopt.

I won't be and I honestly don't anyone who has. I guess it depends on why and if feelings would change based on the results. of course if you're looking for relation that's a little different... if that's a concern

Although I am not having one - I've heard that it's mainly to make sure that you aren't related, but also to put everything out in the open like disease wise, any genetic abnormalities, possible fertility complications, etc. Wouldn't want you to go into a marriage to later have a problem like that break it up.

Me and my FH have already discussed that if by chance either of us have something that makes it difficult or not possible to conceive our blood kids that it isn't the end all be all - but it may be for some.

I didn't do any medical testing the first time and won't this time either. I don't know anyone who has, honestly.
