Meal options?

Chelsea, on November 2, 2016 at 18:52 Posted in Wedding reception 0 24

Hello everyone! I am curious to know everyone's thought and opinions on this subject!

If you are having a plated meal, will you be giving your guests the option of two different options such as chicken or beef. Or do you prefer just picking one and serving it - aside from either vegetarian or gluten free of course!

I would love to hear pros and cons to both and see what other people are doing!

What about etsy or anywhere online for an apron with a wide top? It might make a nice keepsake to cook in, and custom printed things on aprons are probably easier to come across than plastic?

That would be super cute! what if you could find a bib that says "bride" on it? Smiley surprise

We got a pretty funny one of my sister drinking her beloved chocolate milk on her wedding dress leaning over the bed in her hotel suite befroe the wedding- shots like that mean so much because they represent the people in the picture so well!

What food did you end up choosing to put in your buffet? How many people are you feeding?

I think that is great how they will be taking the order of the guests the night of! I like the choice selection as well! Chicken is definitely always a safe bet and I think it is nice how you will have something on the menu that is a local delight! Very nice Smiley smile

HAHA I fully agree... we will MAKE TIME to eat! I already told FH that we are not having people "clink" their glass for us to kiss because people do it too much and you better believe I will ignore that shit and eat my food!! (I get super hangry lol)

And I am with you on the flowers... if I can't eat it, it's just taking up space and I will wonder if it IS edible and if I'm suppose to eat it? I guess being brought up to finish what was on my plate has lead me to try and eat anything and everything put on my plate Smiley laugh

We're doing a choice of chicken or salmon. We tried chicken, beef and salmon at the tasting and the chicken and salmon were our faves! We're big foodies so we wanted to give our guests an amazing meal! The beef tasted like something we could get anywhere and we figured salmon and chicken were safe bets. (along with vegan and gluten free options) There were some more expensive options like lobster and lamb but we were happy with the chicken and salmon and didn't think it was worth it to splurge. Also, the salmon is local BC salmon so we really liked that our guests would have the option of trying something from the area we'll be in! I would say that my family is very food adventurous and while my fiance is, his family isn't so we wanted to give options to satisfy both sides. My fiance is going to get the chicken and I'll get the salmon so we can taste a little bit of both. Smiley winking (We're definitely not going to be the couple that doesn't find time to eat! haha) We're lucky that our venue is a restaurant so they will actually be taking everyone's orders the night of the wedding (rather than guests having to remember what they ordered on their RSVP).

Also, unrelated but have you noticed that for weddings they always put orchid flowers on the plates? Haha you see it on Four Weddings all the time and it always makes me think of those cooking shows like Chopped where the judges say "don't put a garnish on the plate that isn't edible!" Must be a wedding thing.

Hey Chelsea Smiley heart I really like that you started this discussion!! It's so good to see what everyone's "safe" options are for menus and definitely think about the pros and cons for coordination. I think my safe bet would probably be to have a buffet so that everyone can choose what they want, but like Simone said, that can be a more expensive option. Smiley xd

You can also have a look at these discussions for more ideas:

The chicken in that picture you just shared seems delicious!! Smiley love Is that the creamy garlic chicken that's on your menu?

Of course I will, come to Winnipeg and I will save you a slice. Thanks, I know my guests and I would not want them to feel that they can't have something to eat or due dietary restrictions.

Lol chicken is always a safe bet. We tried two different meals and then decided to just serve the one instead of doing the option. We didn't want people changing their minds or have to worry about tracking people down if they didn't get back to us in time.... We decided on assorted dinner rolls, a caesar salad for a starter. Then the meal will be a creamy garic chicken with a carrot and bean medley with oven roasted potatoes. It was delicious!

Hi Chelsea,For our wedding we are going for a three plated-meal which I found out is more affordable than the buffet. We are looking at giving food options: Chicken, Fish, Pork and Vegetarian meal. The nice part is that the guest will get New York Dtyle Cheesecake with their chioce of sauce like chocolate, caramel, and strawberry.

My venue actually doesn't allow guests to have a choice (aside from dietary restrictions, which they are great about accomodating thankfully). My venue said it is too difficult to coordinate and people change their minds too often (they check off beef then chnge their mind to chicken day of)... they obviously said it nicer, I'm paraphrasing lol. So we'll be doing a tasting in the new year and then just picking one meal (likely one of the 6 kinds of chicken they offer)
