Marriage license from another country

Gina, on September 11, 2017 at 17:13 Posted in Before the wedding 0 3

Hello Everyone!

I got married last year in Portugal as a civil marriage.

I am getting married again (to the same person) however we are having a religious

ceremony this time in a Roman Catholic Church.

The Roman Catholic Church requires a marriage license 3 months before the church ceremony. Do I have to get a new one in Canada?

Hi Gina! I'd ask the church exactly what they need from you, and see if maybe you can talk to your embassy to see if they know the legal requirements? I'd guess your marriage in Portugal carries over and you're still legally married Smiley shame , so the church probably just needs to see your marriage certificate!

Hahaha I love the way you phrased "to the same person". You should ask the church that question but they probably just need your marriage certificate from portugal?

Yes, you do. It only took 10 minutes for us to fill out the forms and 15 minutes for it to be ready. We went to Pickering City Hall on a Friday afternoon. It wasn't busy and the fee was only $125.00.
