When I go pick up my marriage license does my Fiancé have to come with me? he doesn't seem to understand why we both need to be there. but i was told once that we both have to be there. Can anyone shed some light on this. for reference i live in Ontario.

Just download the form from a different municipality. It's the same form.

The file isn't supported on mobile, you'll need to do it from a computer.

My city has its own website, but looks like you’re in Barrie?

For Barrie this is the website to start with:https://www.barrie.ca/Living/Pages/Births-Deaths-Marriages.aspx

From there it seems to take you to service ontario where you can download the marriage license application to bring with you

Government website says you both need to be there (with 2 pieces of govt ID). You could always call the registry you want to go to to confirm. But its exactly what Jacquie mentioned, they are creating a legal document for you, so they need to prove who you both are, swear you into stuff, ect. For all they know, you're tricking your FH into this heheheh jkjk

Looks like it actually is different in ON and AB.

You can go alone as long as he has already signed the paperwork and you might have to bring some identification for him with you. But to be safe, I'd call your local registry and ask.

I'm in Alberta, so it may be different here (I highly doubt it). But yes, you both need to be there with government ID. The registry is creating a legal document for you, they are not just going to take your word that your fiancé is actually your fiancé and wants this license to be created.
