Marriage Licence help in Ontario!!

Lena, on May 22, 2020 at 12:18 Posted in Ontario 1 2

Hi Everyone!

Im hoping someone might have the answer to this.

Partner & I want to get married now without a wedding (covid lol) were applying for our licence and noticed we have to put down a date. since we don't have official plans. What happens if we don't get married on the date we put in our marriage licence? will it become void and we will have to get another one? or can we still use it as long as the "wedding" date is within three months of when the marriage licence was issued?

Thanks for any help!!

Hi Lena, did you get to figure out how to get your license? Do you have a date for your marriage date?

You have 90 days from the date of issuance Of the license. If the actual date ends up being later, yes, you will need to re-apply. If your wedding date is within the 90 days of license issuance, you are good to go!

Also, almost all municipalities are closed due to COVID. HOWEVER, City Hall in St. Thomas came up with a socially distanced process by appointment only and you can check out details here if haven’t already:

We hope this helps you and many couples in Ontario!
