Making sacrifices - what did you give up to prepare for the wedding?

Joey, on December 5, 2018 at 08:05 Posted in Before the wedding 0 18

Have you chosen to make any sacrifices in order to help prepare for your wedding? Did you take time off from a hobby in order to fit in more planning time? Are you imposing a spending limit on holiday gifts this year? Did you give up your morning café stop, or start bringing your lunches to work to save up extra money?

What are you sacrificing, and what are you getting in exchange your efforts?

We didn't do Christmas gifts this year and I've been pretty good at saving. FH on the other hand... not so much.

I'm already pretty frugal, so I've had to cut back on my one shameless indulgence... buying books Smiley cry

Easing back on dinners and things out! Save some money there! My FH and I have called off gifts for bdays and things to save a bit more money! Not only are we wedding planning but getting a house soon too! Doesnt feel like a sacrifice just a smart decision for bigger things to come!

I have sacrificed a lot of free time doing research etc. We also are skipping Christmas cards as we are so busy. For the most part though we did not give a lot. I have put in some extra hours at work to bank some time off but I am OK with that.

Mostly any travel we wanted to do before the wedding! Our vacation days for next year are all booked up for the wedding, and on top of that, we have to go down to London a few times too to do tastings/trials/meetups with vendors.

We are also trying to be more frugal (i.e. eating out less) since we need to fly down quite a bit.

Ummm eating chocolate? Haha. My parents are paying for the wedding, so I didn't have to "give up" any spending habits (I already am pretty frugal as is)... but I guess I have focused a lot more of my free time on wedding related things, or research.

The main thing I've "given up" is my poor eating habits. I got engaged December 28th, 2017, and joined Weight Watchers on January 27th, 2018.... Now almost 11 months later I've lost 32.5lbs this year!!

We haven't really given up a ton. Just been more cautious about eating out/going out/going to sports/concerts etc. We did forgo our friends that went to an all inclusive in October. but even without the wedding we wouldn't have been able to swing it.

We're putting all of our major travel plans on hold. Smiley sad

We had been saving up for a future group trip with our friends, but decided to put those funds towards our wedding instead. It was a tough decision for sure.

I completely agree with you! Only 15 pounds to go to get to my goal! and I still have a good 10 months left. We can do it!

I did lazy keto for 2 months and dropped a good 15 pounds, and now am just not adding sugar to anything, or eating as much bread.

We have also cut out eating out as much and just trying to make more meals at home! Saves money in the long run!

My fiancé and I haven't been splurging on gifts this year; while we still enjoy going out occasionally, we've cut back!

I'm missing out on a family trip to Europe Smiley sad

My brother is graduating from Uni in Norway, and my parents, brother, SIL, and baby niece are all going for 2-3 weeks. They just bought their tickets, and I wish so badly that we could join! But they are going 2 months before our wedding, and we just can't afford to go with them. I am happy for all of them, but I am super bummed that I can't go!

I've decided to be healthier for not only my health and weight, but for my skin too! I pretty much have already started but it's also going to be my new years resolution to not eat at any fast food places. Basically, if it has a drive through - I can only get something like black coffee or water Smiley tongue

I think the only thing I’ve really given up is certain food. I’m trying to loose weight because I’m pretty unhappy with where I am right now. Other than that I don’t think there’s really been any sacrifices, financially we’re doing better than ever because I have a job that pays a lot better so we haven’t really needed to sacrifice much in that sense
