Looking for plant based sateen-like fabrics

Joy, on November 3, 2022 at 13:39 Posted in DIY 0 1

I'm wanting to make my own dress with the help of some friends, and I'm running into some challenges getting a fabric that I like. I'd like to do something with light blue, and I really don't want polyester (like what Fabricville/Fabricland sells). Anyone know of any places that ship to Canada that would have something like cotton sateen, lyocell, tencel, bamboo satin, etc that's not stretchy? The closest I can find right now is some bedsheets, and I'm not sure that would make a good wedding garment.

I'd like to use the fabric in decor as well, but I don't need 10 yards or more like bulk websites. If anyone else sews and has more ideas for where to look or what to look for, I'd appreciate it. The main reasons I'm looking for something mostly plant based is because I have a condition where I sweat a lot, making polyester very uncomfortable. It's also very hard to sew with things like silk and synthetic satin. Having something made with flax or bamboo is a great way to stay cool and dry, but these fabrics are very hard to find.

I would be open to the idea of dying it myself, but I'd rather not have one more thing to worry about. So is it okay to buy sheets, or are there better places to look?

I would check on etsy. there are some sellers on there that sell fabric, so there might be something there.
