Are you the owner of the cottage? If not, then you'll need an SOP. You'll also need an SOP if you're serving outdoors, regardless of the property. People try to get away without getting one because they think no one will check but if heaven forbid anything happens (someone gets hurt, property gets damaged, or even if neighbors simply complain) and law enforcement gets involved and finds out you're serving illegally, it can cost you quite a fine. They are for also available for non sales and cost $45. The great thing too is you can use the SOP to return any unopened alcohol.

This comes into the act of private event which the license doesn't allow you to register. Special Occassion license is what you will want to get and believe its around $150.

If you plan on serving alcoholic beverages, you need a special events permit and someone who has their smart serve (they’re easy to get and last your whole life), especially if you’re mixing drinks, you may need to hire a bartender.

What you need is a Special Occasion Permit from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission. They have different options, including one for private parties.

A liquor license is for a restaurant/venue to sell alcohol to customers on a regular basis.
