Let them eat cake - Cake Ideas

Kristen, on October 19, 2020 at 16:15 Posted in Wedding reception 0 11

Hey all!

I seem to be going in circles in my mind of cake choices! Do I want simple white butter cream on vanilla cake or do I want a multi teared cake with something different like Earl Grey cake with lavendar icing?? Maybe even cupcakes to go with or a nice macaron tower??

I am curious to hear/see what everyone has planned for their yummy desserts!

(This cake is something I originally wanted)

You can talk to bakers to determine a tier size that works best for your guest count. Bakers have told me different sizing optionss based on approx guest count and how thick of a slice of cake I'm looking for (coffee portion or dessert proton). You can also make use of faux tiers! Even if there is left over cake pretty sure I can get rid of it by giving extras to family/friends or freezing for later!

This is the design I'm going for but different colour theme. We're going to do three different flavours for each tier.

This is what my fiance and I are wanting to do for our cake. Instead of silver pearls we'll be doing gold pearls. My fiance and I can't taste test our flavors since we're getting married in a different province then we live in, we decided to go with chocolate and vanilla flavor for our cake.

Haha oh know! I dont think I would be able to do cake tasting haha! I would want everything!

Thats a brilliant idea to put it as a choice on the RSVP card. I have never heard of that before! That would be a good way to figure out just how much you will need.

Oh yum! cookies and cream would be so delicious! I like the idea of having the two classic flavors then one of your choice.

Thats a smart idea to make the bigger tier a classic. I never really thought of having multiple flavors. I know my fiance wants just a small cake for cutting so thats probably what we will end up doing (in our flavor). I like the classic flavor cupcake idea though. I know my caterer is also bringing a huge "Fruit Mirror" thats included so I dont really know how much dessert we will actually need or that will actually be eaten.

Here is a picture of my cake that my mom made!! I absolutely love it. ❤️

This is actually a show cake with only one small real cake part for the cake cutting portion. This was displayed during the reception and we didn't want the guests to eat cake that was 'exposed', so my mom also made separate sheet cakes for the guests. Those cakes were stored separately and only brought out when it was time for cake. The flavours were black forest, mocha, mango, carrot, and ube (similar to taro).
I like the idea of an earl grey cake with lavender icing! It's not a flavour you see often and would be a nice treat for the guests. That being said, I did go with the classic, simple white look so totally up to you. Goodluck!

I just tried ten cake flavours last week and was only able to write off four of them (not because they were bad but more so they just weren't "our flavours" or something we'd think the masses would be into). So yeah, I'm in your boat lol.

Depending on how many people we're allowed, we're narrowing it down to either two or three flavours. Because we're serving cake as our dessert, we're including the three flavours in the RSVP. So in addition to choosing their entree, they'll pick a cake flavour and we'll pick which flavour for what size accordingly.

We had cookies and cream with vanilla buttercream with a simple textured effect. There were cupcakes for our guests in chocolate, vanilla, and cookies and cream. I'm glad we got our cake in a flavor we liked instead of something crowd pleasing. Since we're doing a bigger reception next year and I enjoyed their cake more than their cupcakes I might do the bigger tiered cake instead of cupcakes.

I think if you're doing multiple tiers you could do several flavors, the most crowd pleasing on the bigger tiers and the more fun flavors for the smaller ones! And if you go with a fun flavor don't tell a lot of people (especially older relatives who think wedding cake comes in one flavor only), if they make a face or try to talk you out of it you'll just end up stressed out and second guessing your original delicious choice!!
