Late Reception Finding

Bridget, on January 8, 2020 at 11:49 Posted in Wedding reception 0 9
This is probably just going to be me venting, but I recently found out the venue I booked for my reception serves awful overpriced food and are extremely hard to work with. They also have a rule in their contract that you can't have outside catering aside from the cake. Definitely my bad for not researching properly and just going with the, what I thought at the time was, cheapest option. My wedding is 6 months away... Do you guys think it's possible to find a venue for then? July's such a busy month for weddings... I feel a little hopeless. Thanks for listening!

Thanks everyone for the tips! We thankfully have found a great place with great food and that is willing to work with us to make our night super special and budget friendly! 💕

The deposit was only $300, so I'm not too worried about that. Unfortunately the venue we had booked doesn't allow outside catering at all, unless it is the cake, but that's it. So dumb...

Thankfully! We just found a new venue we actually know has great food and have experience with. Why we never thoughy to check there first is beyond me. Haha.

Youll lose your deposit if you do that. call around to otther venues and see if they even have your date available if not i would get a catering company if their food sucks!

As others have said, review your contract. And have a friend or someone else review it too in case you miss something.

It doesn't hurt to look around, and unconventional spaces are a great option. We had looked at using the rehearsal space of a local theatre company before we found our venue.

Like the others have said, for sure check out your contract before doing anything more with them. If you do decide to opt out of your first venue then look at possible venues that aren't typical wedding venues. FH and I are having ours at a local curling club, also in July, and because it's only a curling club the space never gets used during the summer since curling season is over by April/May. So they've never hosted a wedding before, and we got a great price for using the space, plus they offered to pay for half of our photographer as long as we allow them to use some of the photos so that they can start advertising the space for future weddings!

    Thanks so much!
We are pretty flexible with location as we just want a place to hold everybody. I'll be sure to review the contract before I do anything, losing out on more money would completely suck!

    Thanks again!

Thank you for letting me know! I'll talk to the Finacé and check it out! I will be sure to check over the contract again to see if it's worth backing out of.

    Thanks!

I agree with Meaghan - check your contract first. Otherwise I think that it doesn't hurt to look right? Worst thing that could happen is that you don't find one and you stay with the venue you already have booked!

If you are okay with outside of Winnipeg and changing your date to June 13th then my venue out in Elma MB was beautiful and we brought in our own catering! (That's the only date they have left for 2020 according to a post about 5 weeks ago)

You may be able to find another venue, particularly if you're somewhat flexible (ie. legions, community halls, restaurants). You may still have financial obligations to your first venue. You would need to review your contract to determine if it is worth the change.
If you do change venues, I would suggest you get on that now as I imagine you will need to order invitations very soon.

    Good luck!
