Lake Louise honeymoon

Britt, on December 31, 2019 at 20:56 Posted in Honeymoon 0 23
So we are getting married 07.18.20 & we are just starting to think of possible a honeymoon. Someone suggested that we go to Lake Louise. We have 2 small boys so I don't really want to be gone too long or too far away or spend too crazy amount of money. Thinking mid August. Experiences? Places to consider or avoid? TIA

We did the canoe early September and it was fine. As long as you're prepared. Bring mitts and a touque and wear layers.

Same with the hike. It was a full blown snow storm when we did the hike mid September this year (people were still on the lake canoeing). We were lucky to reach the top before the storm blew in and obscured the view, but it was pretty dicey going down. You get super warm on the way up so you're peeling the layers off as you go, even in the snow. The ONLY thing I wish I had was proper hiking footwear and maybe the attach on spikes. My feet were frozen when we were done and my socks were soaked though. The last stretch of the hike was super icy/scary, and spikes definitely would have helped.

We were thinking Baker Creek Lodge as we heard it's pretty good, but I'm just worried it's gonna end up costing the same as flying south. Also what to do while we are there in September, it can get pretty cold for canoes

Lake Louise is my FAVOURITE place in Canada. Its pretty expensive to stay at the hotel, but if you're only going for a few days and can afford it, then I'd say go for it! Otherwise, Banff isn't that far a drive and you can day-tip it out to Louise.

I recommend the Big Beehive as a really great hike that will give you a great view. Its pretty high up. We did the Plain of Six Glaciers this past fall, and it wasn't as high, but it was deep into the glacier and was pretty cool to be surrounded by the mountains. If you're staying in Banff, you can go to the hot springs after your hike and soak your sore muscles. Pro tip.

I also recommend the canoes at Lake Louise. We did the super early morning one, where you're on the water for the sunrise. Its pretty amazing to be out on the lake that early before all the tourists arrive. And they give you coffee and a muffin to enjoy in the boat lol Smiley smile

FH & I went 4 yrs ago to Mexico & had the best time just me & him. It was my first real vacation. We have been meaning to go to bucerías as it's important to my MIL.

That sounds great too!!! If you haven't been to Mexico, I think you'd love it! I hear the resorts are great but Oaxaca is also a really neat place. I agree though, wait til a little closer and snag a deal Smiley smile

I really want to be able to go on a honeymoon, & I was thinking end of Sept as it'll also be my 30th. We might just wait & see if we can get a good deal & do a last minute trip or make it into a family trip & have my MIL to help with the boys. (she's an advid traveler & wanted us to go to visit her spot in Mexico).

That's true, so maybe Newfie is better saved for a family trip lol if banff/lake louise isn't too far from you maybe you can do just a weekend or a 2 day-1 night thing. It's definitely gonna be hard to leave them, but just a day or two is a good thing once in a while. Especially for your honeymoon Smiley smile

BC would be nice. Ive always wanted to see BC. Going out East will be more expensive then going to Mexico lol I'm starting to doubt even going at all. No matter where we go, it's gonna be expensive, & I've never even been away from my boys so Idk if I'll be able to leave them for a few days.

We were also thinking of Lake Louise but we're at the end of October. You could also look into BC for their hot springs? Or even Newfoundland if you like the idea of a quaint getaway. My grandparents lived in st John's for about 8 yrs and we went every summer and there is so much to see and do! If you like history, you can do like a 2 day mini-trek that follows the viking trail! And whale watching is obviously amazing, and you can get 'screeched' Smiley winking lol Good luck with choices!

We are planning on doing a mini-moon right after our wedding (early July) and then a bigger honeymoon during the winter!
Our mini moon will be somewhere more local and cheaper. Then our honeymoon we can save money for a bit, and head somewhere warmer when it’s cold where we live!
Good luck planning. I’d suggest Waterton - it’s beautiful and less touristy than Banff or Canmore!

Unfortunately my family's not around, but his are amazing. MIL & FIL are great, & aren't together, so having one watch each is a possibility, but I'd feel bad asking them to take time off work just to stay home with them. My sister used to disown me if I refused to watch her kids (asked every week), even if I was sick, so I have high anxiety about asking too much of family.

Talk to the family members you trust most and see what they say and then base your decision off of their answer. My youngest is WILD like he's a lot to handle on his own so we always offer watching only one and asking other family to watch the other. The kids love the one on one time they get too

I'm kind of leaning towards not taking them as I feel it will end up being so stressful. We took them to my hometown last summer for my nephew's grad & it was a lot of fighting. My youngest refused to sleep pretty much the entire week, although they would be a little older. I'm just stressed because I've never been away from them & not sure if I can ask our family to watch them for a 3-5days.

I have two small kids as well and my fiance and I both decided that it'll just be the two of us because we never get time like that together anymore.

My birthday is end of September, so maybe we could take a few days then. I really want to go somewhere, but am starting to stress myself over it, as I'm not sure what to do with my boys, if we should just take a few days somewhere close for us, or make a bigger trip with some family so we can split it with a family vaca & honeymoon

Lake Louise is GORGEOUS. I personally love the fall as a season and Lake Louise in the fall can be breathtaking and is also less expensive.

Honestly we haven't thought about our honeymoon at all until yesterday (we've been engaged for 3.5 yrs). Someone mentioned to hubby that it's a great romantic place. We might wait until the fall or even winter for our honeymoon. I heard fall is their slow season so that's when prices drop, which we will definitely think about.

Mid August is peak travel season so you will deal with some business wherever you go.
Have you thought of the adjoining national parks to Banff and Jasper? (I‘be never been but perhaps there’s a quiet spot with less traffic?)
You could always grab a cheap swoop flight into BC or other places they fly too for a mini moon so you’re not gone from your kids long

Lake louise gets 20-40k day visitors a day and the hotels are booked 6-9 months in advanced. Having lived there id go somewhere else.
