Is Sandals Worth it?

Chris, on February 13, 2018 at 00:36 Posted in Honeymoon 0 7

We paid for our entire wedding ourselves including wedding dress, bar bill, dinner reception dinner etc.

So all the money we spent which was a fortune for one day we racked up lots of points on our credit card. We are planning on using our points we have been saving for years towards our honeymoon.

Sandals is something we could not afford generally but seeing as we are using our points it covers one of us completely and we would split the difference for the second person.

Is Sandals really worth it or are you just paying for the name?

My husband is thinking we can go somewhere much cheaper like Cuba or Dominican and not pay anything but I am thinking why don't we pay what we would normally pay each and go somewhere more expensive and someplace we have never been that would be out of our price range but since we are using points we can afford it since it our honeymoon so it would be special.

This may be our first and last time at Sandals. Is it really worth it?

What are the pros/cons?

Thanks

I booked Sandals Ochi in Jamaica myself, it will be my first time there. I did a comparison in regards to "all inclusive" for what they include vs. other resorts in Mexico and Dominican. Neither myself nor FH drink so we weren't too worried about the cost of drinks but we bother LOVE food and with 16 restaurants on site for us to choose from I'm sure we WILL find something we would love to eat. Also the onsite activities are plentiful that even if we don't join any local tours we won't get bored anytime soon. The reviews have also been quite high for it, one of my co-workers used to actually live in Jamaica and she said that she used to have an internship at the resort and she is extremely jealous that I'm going. She said working there was awesome but she couldn't afford to stay there even as staff and she said it's simply beautiful there.

Depending when you book they have a frequent 65% off on their rates, which is when we booked. Even with the discount it's a splurge for us we are paying about $12,000 CAD for 14 days in November

Sandals is worth it. The resort has so much to offer and the beach is beautiful. Restaurants have amazing selection and the brekfasts. You won't regret making the time to go.

I have been there and other family were invited for my brothers engagement.

I've never been anywhere and we are also paying for the whole wedding ourselves. We have no points or any other money saved up for the honeymoon but we decided to go all out, seeing as how it's my first tropical trip. We decided on the secrets resort in costa rica! If you're looking to not spend money then go somewhere cheaper but if you're wanting a better experience go with the sandals resort!

I would say go for it if it is not going to add too much to the "wedding debt". Not many chances to do a vacation like that!

My cousin did a Sandals resort for his honeymoon and had the best things to say about it. If the points let you have a 'splurge' level honeymoon instead of a run-of-the-mill vacation, I say go for it!
