Is it wrong to try to sell a prize?

Emily, on January 22, 2018 at 23:57 Posted in Contest 0 9
I recently attended a Bridal Show in Edmonton and won $2000 off a cinematography package and $2000 off a photography package. I can’t use it because I have a photographer and the prices are still too expensive for my budget. So I thought I would try to sell it so that I could still “win” something from it. When I did that I got some backlash because I “ shouldn’t make money off of something I won.” But, I thought that’s why we all entered; to make something. I also just finished school and am unemployed while trying to pay for a wedding so I could have really used some extra money. What are your opinions?

I think a lot of people win that, I know I won that same package in Calgary from the Bridal show, its a sales gimmick, which is unfortunate. their prices are so high, that even with the $2000 off they end up being much more expensive than the majority of photographers out there. If you win a prize and cannot use it, just let them know or just don't use it, selling it just seems wrong.

There's nothing wring with that.as long as you read the fine print and it's okay. Sell that bad boy! Don't worry about other people and what they say, you do whats best for you and that's all that matters.

If there is a condition applied to the prize money, it would be on the fine print. However, if the vendors don't allow transfer its not worth the trouble. If your not going to use the vendor, you may keep the money unless they come after you cause your not taking anyvof their package deals.

Hi Emily! Have you read the fine print? I'd be a little surprised if you could sell or gift this to another couple!

How did you receive the prize? Did the vendor email you or do you have a coupon or coupon code?

I would check all the fine print to make sure you are allowed to sell but see no problem with doing so if you can.

There might be a clause that you are unable to sell it. That it is only available to the price winner. I know a few vendors do this.

If I’m reading that correctly, you have $4000 in savings there... sell it! Not for the full $4000, but even for $1500. And like Brittany said, if there’s no interest, maybe reduce the asking price. But there’s no reason not to sell it. You’re giving someone else a lot of money back into their pocket.

Even if you sell it for less than the value (like $500-1000 or something) that still could save someone a good chunk of change! I say do it!! If you have offers, then great, if not, reduce the price and see. Smiley smile
(I’m in a similar situation of being fresh out of school, and not working enough to live AND pay for a wedding. I’m sure there are people out there who would love to take that off your hands.)

I really don’t understand why people care. Like it’s a waste of you don’t use it so why shouldn’t you sell it? Might as well. Someone else will get an awesome deal out of it too.
