Is it tacky to offer campsites to our guests?

Jennifer, on January 18, 2021 at 18:44 Posted in Wedding reception 0 16

My fiance and I have pushed our 2021 wedding to 2022, and now I have ALL THIS TIME to obsess over it, haha.

Our venue is an over-nighter, providing a honeymoon suite for us, as well as a couple glamping units to be utilized by the wedding party. Also available are a few RV sites and a ton of campsites for tents (for an additional cost). I know for sure my parents and a couple cousins will be bringing their RVs for the two days, however I'm wondering if anyone would even be interested in camping in a tent overnight after the reception.

Our plan is to have our DJ rockin' beats until around 12:30am, then we'll be moving the party to the bonfire pit area, which I would assume would bring outfit changes for all remaining guests anyway lol, I'm just not sure if it's absolutely horrendous to offer tent space to our guests?? Has anyone ever camped in a tent at a wedding before? Is it worth the money to reserve the spots? Any insight is appreciated!

**I should note that we are ALSO renting a bus/coach to make a trip from our venue into the city around midnight.

I definitely think its a great idea, sounds like tons of fun!
What kind of age groups do you have at your wedding? Personally, I know alot of my aunts and uncles would say "No" to camping, if they have bad knees/back pains. But alot of the younger people in my family/friends would find it amazing.
So maybe think about that, and get a number of how many you might have to reserve?

I think it sounds like a fun idea! I would much rather stumble back to a tent a few minutes away vs taking a bus into town and then a cab home from there and another cab the next morning to wherever I left my car.

Plus it really sounds like it suits the vibe of your wedding.

Yea I don’t think it’s tacky, it’s the feel of your wedding and I would totally be into it. Also a good option for the bus so people don’t feel obligated to camp but I think a lot would be love to.

When I first started looking I was specifically looking for venues that had over night camping spots. They ended up being too pricey for me - but my vision was exactly what you mention - everything at one location, reception ends and a bonfire party begins - then everyone can just stumble to their stalls when they are done ! One of the most important things to me is having all our family and friends together celebrating so that would be a big yes from me.

I would totally be into this kind of wedding. Offering campsites is great because then your guests don’t have to worry about getting home after the wedding and they can make a whole weekend out of it!

I think that’s a great idea! People can choose to use it or not, but I wouldn’t think it tacky at all.

I think it's a great idea to invite guests to camp. They have the option to be included and stay with the rest of the party, and if they aren't interested then they don't have to.

I'd love to camp after a wedding!

I don't think it's tacky. If they don't want to stay, they don't have to stay.
