I skipped the Save the Dates but I made a Save the Date Facebook Group to ask for everyone's mailing address ( I used The Knot website for that - as we did online RSVP). It worked out super well!

We're doing them because approximately 85% of our invite list is from out of town and we want to give them time to plan and save. We're going to do the Save the Date Magnets from Vistaprint (will wait for one of their 50% off sales), with the magnets and the postage it will be costing less than $100 (for about 50 magnets), which seems like nothing in the grand scheme of the wedding.

We will send out STDs probably 10-12 months before (depending when engagement photos are ready), and invites will go out roughly 4 months before the wedding. We also want to have our wedding website up and running before we send out STDs with information about accommodations because honestly people should probably book that as far ahead as possible, as the Okanagan is pretty busy and can get expensive.

If you don't want to spend money on it but want to give out of town people a heads up you could always consider doing digital STDs.

I skipped save the dates- everyone who was invited new the date and we had told them previously. We sent out invitations 4 months prior though. I personally think they are a waste. If you have a lot of out of town people or out of province I would recommend them or call them to make sure they know at least for travel arrangments.

We are skipping the invitations and are only doing save the dates. On our save the date we put our website which has all information that would generally go on the invitation and RSVP info.

I sent out digital STD one year out since most of my family is overseas! Won’t be sending the invites out until 3-4 months before

We didn’t do the STD here but I sent out the invites 6 months before the wedding to make sure everyone could make it

We're having a 2 year engagement as well and sending STDs around 1 year out. They're quite affordable via Vistaprint and I'm sick to death of people asking about our date lol. Plus we do have some out of towners who would benefit from some extra notice.

Our wedding is in the summer as well in August and we are thinking of sending invitations earlier because a lot of people go on vacations around that time and we would really love all our intended guests to come!

It depends if it is in your budget or not. I wanted family to have one of our engagement pictures. So I did magnets from Vistaprint which I got 50% off. Sent them out about the 10 month mark!

Save the Dates were skipped due to being unneccessary. The invitations were sent only after having all the information provided to our guests. Even the venue website, facebook, and phone number to reach them personally.

There were 2 cards created as:

Main: Wedding and Reception for the same venue and Dress Attire for each

2 Parts: RSVP date with names of invitees and meal choices with email provided. Accommodations too with our names for the booking block to reserve at the venue.

Since i’m having a two year engagement, we did save the dates a year before the wedding. it was just a fun thing to get people excited!

I skipped them.

I wanted to do them but by the time I got my engagement pictures back it was already the 10 month mark and we were sending our first wave of invites out at the 6ish month mark so I didn't see the point in it.

Save the dates are unnecessary, in my opinion.

That being said, I am sending some out because we have international guests who need to book flights, etc. and it’s a summer wedding so I want to let people know as early as possible so they can rearrange any summer travel plans if they want to attend our wedding.
