Invitation Disaster!!

Kelsie, on January 27, 2020 at 14:10 Posted in Before the wedding 0 16

If anyone has been following my invitation nightmare it is now a full blown disaster. Invitations are turning into a nightmare

The woman doing my invitations has suddenly passed away yesterday. Leaving me 2 weeks from when I need my invites without a new company to use. They never even reached out to me letting me know she passed away - I had to contact them. I totally get when someone is sick and has passed on but you should be letter your customers know right away so they can make informed decisions.

They also are being EXTREMELY difficult with returning my cash deposit - they want to provide the deposit to us on credit card, which doesn't work for us because we want to pay our next invitation deposit in cash.

I'm literally scrambling to find someone new that can do everything needed in 2 weeks time, order and deliver them on time.

I also really don't want to sue the company for my deposit back but if they continue to be difficult, I won't have any other choice - ugggghhhh!

They're 20 minutes away from where I live.. but over an hour from my job. Unfortunately, no one has been in the store since before she passed and won't say when they'll be back. We're going to give them a bit more time, and if we don't hear from them we'll unfortunately have to consider our legal remedies.

It's not huge - but we just bought a house... so losing any chunk of money right now for us is devastating... it's just too bad. She was a lovely woman, but this wasn't dealt with appropriately. Her voicemail box has been full - I imagine many customers like myself are quite angry.

Dang, I am so sorry to hear about this nightmare continueing.... hopefully it wasn't that big of a deposit where it will make it hard on the wedding budget?

Oh sorry, I missed that part.

Personally I would definitely try to get that money back. As you said, they should have let the customers know about the situation asap, as well as explain how they will handle all refunds if no one plans on doing them for the person who passed.

This is such a tough situation. I am sorry this is happening Smiley sad

How did you pay? if you paid by Credit Card you can dispute it with your credit card company / bank. I used to work in disputes Smiley smile

I used Zazzle for my bridal shower invites and it worked out well! Vistaprint or Zazzle unfortunately don’t have what I’m looking for, so I’ve got to use a stationary vendor.

Vistaprint is amazing!! It took less then a week for our invitations to come in! And such a great price!

We might’ve found a new vendor! Just the money back might be an issue - we’re worried the business falls under the estate now which would be frozen. YIKES.

I am sorry for their loss and I also understand your frustration and stress. I would suggest Vistaprint as a possible alternative. It would require some effort on your end (to either use one of their existing designs or purchase and download one from an online seller) but perhaps less stressful.

    Oh no!
I guess this explains why she was not providing the same level if service you mom had experienced with her before!
I agree with you, if this was foreseeable she should have communicated better with her current clients.I hope you are able to get it sorted out 9ut with the new vendor quickly and that you get your money back!

As much as I understand the grieving process, I feel there was a lack of communication on their end because had I known earlier, I would've pulled out weeks ago and avoided this. That's why i'm frustrated. Apparently the invitation industry knew she was sick for over a year and she had told everyone last year she wasn't going to take any more orders.

I wouldn't use vista print for the type of invites I want. I've found another company - they're pretty far from where I live but they're cheaper. It makes it a bit easier to write off the deposit if we need to because we're saving. Just such a frustrating day.

    That is so frustrating!
Are you set on finding someone local or would you use a site like Vistaprint so you can meet the deadline? You can still personalize them or splurge a bit for some one of a kind touches.
I know it doesn't feel like it but adjusting your timeline by a week or so might not be the end of the world. And those extra days might alleviate stress while you search for someone new. As much as you need the money back it is likely a very stressful time for their relatives as they deal not only with their grief but with all the logistics of refunding any clients your vendor had. I would give them a little leniency.
