Intimate wedding, bridal party

Nancy, on February 12, 2017 at 22:43 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 11
Hello, I am stuck in a situation that I would like some input on! We originally planned a big wedding and have asked 6 people total to be in our bridal party.. we have recently decided to have a small intimate ceremony instead (parents, siblings, grandparents, nieces and nephews).. some of our groomsmen have families (wife and kids).. my question is would it to be ok to have them stand at our wedding still? And do we need to invite theirs families to the ceremony? Or should we opt for a smaller bridal party? The bridesmaids are my 2 sisters and his sister.. so there's no issues for them, they are immediate family, but the groomsmen are friends.. I'm really stuck! I have no idea what the proper thing to do is! Thanks in advance!

We haven't discussed anything with anyone this far! Only asked the bridal party to be a part of our day 🙂

Congratulations!!!! I would say at this point , now that you asked it's hard to renag on your invitation. I agree with Valerie, invite significant others and not the kids. I'm sure you will figure it out!!!

Oh good!! Did you verbally tell them their kids would be able to come before though? If not, I think you are totally fine!

We haven't sent out any invitations! Thank you, this is what I was considering doing.. just having their wives for the ceremony.

Hey Nancy,Once invited you should never rescind your offer to a member of your wedding party. It is also proper to invite significant others but plus ones and children do not NEED to be invited. Though be prepared that they may need to back out if they cannot get a sitter. Did you invite their families previously? If there wasn't a mention before I would just not mention it and they will know only they're invited when they get their invitation

My suggestion is to just talk to them directly and explain the situation! Guage if they would be cool with going solo. They're friends after all and you should be able to talk about stuff without worrying about etiquette too much Smiley smile

Hi Nancy! Welcome to the community! I'm happy to hear from you! Smiley heart Let's see... So you have 3 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen. I think that's a decent number for an intimate wedding Smiley smile You can take a look at these discussions as a reference:

How many bridesmaids should you have?

10 questions to cut down your guest list

    Who should get a plus-one?

Do the groosmen have big families? They could have a +1 without inviting the whole family. How many guests would you like to have? How many would that be if you invite their families?
