I need some decision making help, please

Meaghan, on September 3, 2019 at 12:10 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5
So I vented in another thread that our elopement has gotten away from us a bit. We have decided to accept this and go with it, but I need to figure out how to feed these people!!!

Plan A was the two of us and our kids go to a restaurant for dinner. We have a quiet table, tucked away in the main dining room reserved for 4.

There are now 9 of us attending, so my reservation wont work. The first restaurant doesn't open until 4pm today. I could wait until 4pm and ask if they can add an additional 5 people. The table may not be so private. And if they are busy tomorrow night for whatever reason, we are in a really bad place.

OR...

Plan B - I contacted a restaurant that has a small private dining room. They are offering us use of the private dining room plus a prix fixe 3 course meal (choice of 3 apps, 3 mains, every one gets the same dessert). This isnt quite what I wanted, but I could get this all sorted in an hour and be done with it.

I really need some help making this decision and FH is incommunicado at work right now. I want the first restaurant but I am scared it will not be able to accommodate the extra people.

Word to the wise: if you are eloping, don't decide to tell everyone 2 days before the wedding, because figuring this out 24 hours beforehand is too much!

It was perfect, food was amazing. It was so nice having a private room. So much stress just before, but it was completely perfect. I should have planned it like that from the start.

Ok, restaurant A cannot accommodate (or rather, they aren't sure yet and I can't wait to hear back).
So restuarant B it is. I think it will be nice. We will have our own room and it will be quiet.
This is the menu I chose. I think it will be OK:

    No penalty.
Oh, you are good. Thank you, that's exactly what I'll do!

Is there any penalty if you reserve and then cancel? I have never heard of there being a cancellation fee for restaurants so if they don't then I would book the 2nd place and then call the 1st place at 4pm. If they say they can accommodate then cancel the 2nd place and if they can't then cancel them while you are talking to them!
