How much decorations do you really need

Donna, on January 9, 2019 at 16:19 Posted in Wedding reception 0 9

Speaking about decorations how much is enough, how much do you need. Who's support to go the night before and do up the hall the Bride, her party, Groom his party or all?

So much more going to be asked it's like 6 months away, I'm getting so excited.

I have kept it SUPER minimal, but our venue is also extremely self decorate. It's got floor to ceiling windows, big wood beams, and twinkle lights wrapped around the beams that are permanently there.

I've just done DIY centrepieces (no flowers, so I could go a little more elaborate with them), candles, some lights, and a few 'statement' piece arrangements for things like the signing table, guestbook table and gifts/cards table.

I have access to my venue at 10am the day of (ceremony not til 4.30pm). I did not have the budget to hire a day-of coordinator, so I have asked my cousin and his gf to set up for me. She is super excited to help set up for the wedding, and they are both smart/detail oriented people, so I am not concerned about them doing everything properly.

If you can set up the night before, it's totally up to you who should do it, but I'd suggest enlisting your bridal parties, and the helpful parents. Pretty much, the more people to help, the faster you can get it done.

In my opinion, I vote on staying on the minimalist side of decorating... but mainly because I know that people don't remember those "little things" that ended up costing you a fortune, and your money could be better spent put towards an upgraded meal option, or entertainment or something.

Again, all personal preference, so just do what you want, don't worry about what you may think that people "expect"! Good luck!

I'm not stressing myself over having too much decorations.

Our venue provides table linens and chair covers. They also have different coloured napkins and chair scrunchies for the chair cover fabric to tuck into. The venue is in charge of putting that up.

Our DJ is providing uplighting to add to the walls. The venue itself has some great chandeliers.

We will be doing centrepieces, head table decorations, and the guestbook/cards and gifts table decorations. My godmother was an interior designer and offered to get a lot of that set up the day of/the night before if no one books our room the night before. Our venue's coordinator will also be able to help her set up, along with her friend who's also big on decor.

We want to keep it on the minimal side and the venue already provides a lot for us. Depending on how much you're doing/your access to the hall, it could be all done by your mom and some aunts. If you can get in the night before, the bride/bridesmaids can definitely help, but they shouldn't be running around decorating the day of.

    Its all preference.

our hall is very minimal/plain. so we hired a decorator. she is doing tablecloths/chair covers/backdrop behind head table and centerpieces. originally i looked at making the centerpieces ourselves. but it would have only saved me about 200-300 bucks. and to me that was money well spent to not have to go to the venue the morning of to do centerpieces (we don't get access the night before)

if you can get access the night before. get wedding party and any in town family members to help you out.

Right now minimal decor is really in so don't sweat it too much as long as your venue doesn't look too bad Smiley tongue

As for who does the set up - that all depends on when you have access to the venue. If you have it the night before then everybody in the wedding party should be lending a hand as well as the parents but if you only get it the day of then it should be up to the uncles and aunts as long as you are close to them as well as the groomsmen and groom. Definitely not the Bride and the bridal party though.

Personal preference! I've been to venue where the walls are SUPER BORING and desperately needed some decoration, 9ur venue has very decorative walls and chandeliers so we are cutting back there! Tables will have linens and some decor... and then the foyer! We will have a bit but not going over the top

    Hi Donna,

It depends on a number of absolute and flexible variables.

We're getting married in a botanical garden, so we're not investing a lot in flowers.

We like a fresh, crisp aesthetic, so we're keeping decor to a minimum, and have worked with our venue to determine accessibility and timeline.

We've got a wedding planner and her team doing set up and take down, but I've been in wedding parties where all hands were on deck to help with that sort of thing. Spreadsheets help keep you organized, and you may even consider getting a Day of Coordinator, or assigning someone in your wedding party as your task master.

Ultimately, it's up to you and your significant other to talk to each other and figure out a plan based on variables like your wedding party size, venue and vendor policies etc.

My 2 favourite resources for research are the Wedding Wire Inspiration articles, and Pinterest (beware of the rabbit hole thoughSmiley winking ).

Stay organized, and have fun with it and you'll be fine! Smiley heart

I think we're all getting together the night before July 5th and also that day I also getting my real flowers for the center pieces on each table. I am also getting many balloons that float about the room. ones that also glow in the dark, atc....

I think it varies tbh. My future SIL had loads of decorations and since they had access to the venue there was a bunch of family putting stuff up the day before. My future BIL on the other hand didn’t have venue access until the morning of and didn’t have as much to put up so they had one person the morning of the wedding doing it.
