Just been giving it some thought lately that I’m getting married 8 months after getting engaged. At first I wasn’t really considering a ceremony but then I realized it’s a significant event I want to share with close family and friends. Also I’m the first daughter to get married in my family.

I’ve heard of couples waiting 2 years from engagement to do that. I don’t think I would be able to wait that long. There are many reasons such as getting a venue large enough, getting the time right for family and friends, things like school etc.

How did you decide when to set the date and how long did you wait after getting engaged to get married?

2 years from engagement. I could not ever imagine doing it in less than a year, to me it's crazy. My fiance and I already have our lives started together so we are in no rush. We wanted time to enjoy being engaged before the hectic planning plus we have other things going on that take priority over planning the wedding. So the 2 years was absolutely perfect for us.

We got engaged in October last year, and will be married in September this year. If you ask me it was much to long to wait but I think we decided on September for reasons of weather, guest availability and venue availability. But its taking freaking forever!

We got engaged October 14,2017 and we are getting married July 6, 2019. We are waiting that long because we are paying for it ourselves. Because we have are own place we didn’t want to go into debt paying for this wedding. So it will take us that long to save the money up.

We were engaged New Years Eve and our wedding is October 2018. We knew we wanted a fall wedding so I was ok with a 10 month engagement. We live in the city we’re marrying in so it’s simpler.

We'll be engaged about 18 months before we're getting married. We have such a long engagement because all of our family lives in the Netherlands and a couple of our close friends as well. Our wedding is in summer so then they'll have time to plan a holiday together with it and all that if they'd want to, and tickets would be a lot cheaper if you by them longer beforehand.
We also were in our permanent resident application when we got engaged and weren't sure yet whether or not we'd be able to stay in Canada.
And we're going on a big (mainly expensive..) trip this year (actually in two weeks, yay!) for which we'd already need quite some time off so it was better to have the wedding in 2019

Yeah these days because of cost of living and things like a bachelor degree not being enough to get a proper job, many get married in their 30s. It’s also about being able to cover expenses too.

    All depends.

We waited a year and half but only for logistics. We got engaged nov 2016 and we wanted a summer wedding. I still had a semester left of school to finish jan 2017 and didnt want to plan a wedding during my final school semester (and from long distance) so we put the wedding off a year to give us time to plan appropriately.

I feel like if as a couple you are at the point where you have decided to get married then theres no reason to wait. I feel like whenever it works best in your lives logistically to have the wedding is what you should do! As close or as far away as that is.
