How did you get Engaged?

Sherrie, on November 1, 2019 at 01:43 Posted in WeddingWire 0 14
I love hearing these kinds of stories. So I thought I would ask.

My tale is pretty cheesy. I had the ring for a couple months before I finally did it. I mean I left it out every where that he could see it. Nada. I asked him for months before. So we spent the night watching cheesy wedding movies like wedding singer. I said be right back. I pulled out a treasure chest from my bag. Took out the ring. Made sure the note I wrote before hand was there. And went back. Set it down before him. (Of course sans the ring.). He took 10 mins to read the letter, he spent the time looking for will you marry me instead of reading it right. Sitting in front of him was the ring as I asked. Of course he said yes. But he didn’t leave it at that. The following Monday as I had asked him Friday night. We went for a date night, at our favourite spot. He snuck away asked the server to put it in our dessert. Well meal came and went. And our comes this tray. “I’ll marry you, if you’ll marry me”. And low and behold the ring was sitting in the raspberries. I started planning three months before i proposed. I had showed his brother and dad his ring before i did it. A little while later we went to visit his brother and he was acting odd. I thought his brother had let the cat out of the bag. So when we got home im like did he tell you i was proposing. Hes like no he didnt tell me and looked so suprised. This was days before i was to propose. This is dec 2018. His only request is can you wait until next year. So new years eve as the fireworks went off when we watched the fireworks i turned around in his arms and asked him if he'd marry me. Hes like yes one day. Im like no im asking you to marry me now, hes like oh then yes. It was 12:06am jan 1st 2019. We get married june 21 2020.

At the start of the week, my fiance told me that he was going to take me out for a date night on the Thursday, which I thought was typical since we always make an effort to go out at least once a month together (finding time with kids is harder so we always have to plan) and he told me it was fancy and I was supposed to dress up. Thursday came and I was sitting with my best friend at lunch who joked that he was probably going to propose, I said I doubted it because we had a lot going on in the next year since we had been planning to build our house the following summer and to plan a wedding at the same time was crazy. Anyway, fast forward to the evening, he took me to the Sheraton Hotel where we had drinks in the lounge and then a wonderful steak dinner at one of the cities high-end steakhouses. When we were leaving he told me that 3 years previous (we met at my fiances birthday) at the same lounge we had drinks at that evening was where he fell in love with me and that it was the start of something amazing. So we had walked out of the hotel and on the sidewalk he got down on one knee and told me that since it was where it all started, it was only fitting that it was the same place he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.

I Asked him. I had been planning the how when and where all hunting season with my MOH(sept-dec 1) while he was away hunting. His dad came out from ontario in dec weeks before i planned to pop the question. I told both his dad and brother. Upon returning home from visiting with his dad and brother he was acting so weird so i thought his brother had told him! So i asked him if his brother had told him of my plans. Which he hadnt but by this time id let the proverbial cat out of the bag. He asked if i could wait until next year(2019) so on new years eve i picked up our rings slid mine on as we watched the fireworks going off from our balcony and asked him to marry me. He said yes and told me i was an impatient women waiting only 6 minutes into the new year!

My fiancé proposed on his dad's birthday lol. He bought the ring the day before and couldn't wait anymore. He tried to usher me out the door right after dinner (we were going to a bonfire party at our friends' place), and he was going to stop in at the park we went to for our first date, but his mom stopped us and asked if we could drive his brother home (sending him home almost a full hour early lol). So that plan was foiled.

He ended up stopping at the longitudinal centre of Canada. He took so long getting to the point that I knew what he was going to do and basically just said "spit it out already!" so he did. No one clapped 😂
Then we went to our friends' place. We did that thing where we waited until they noticed. Only one person did despite me doing EVERYTHING with my left hand. We went to the garage first and told the guys, then went into the house. One girl noticed but she didn't say anything. The guy homeowner came in and texted his wife something about noticing the bling or something and she still didn't get it. 😂 Later they offered their spare bedroom so we could "consumate" the engagement. We declined.
Then on the way home we got pulled over. He was handed shots all night so I drove home even though I forgot my license in my car (which I left at his place since we had to drive his brother home and he doesn't like my car). I got out of a ticket by flashing the ring 😂

My FH proposed in Disney World! We went there to celebrate our graduation from university, and we were so excited to go. While we were at the Magic Kingdom, he said "let's go take a photo in front of the castle!" and was pointing at one of the Disney photographers that was waiting for anyone who wanted a castle picture. I almost said no because I didn't envision us paying for the photos since we were on a tight budget, but it was his first time there and he seemed excited so I said okay. We set our bags down next to the photographer and (I found out after) my FH whispered to the photog that he was about to propose. So he got down on one knee and I started crying, and everyone was cheering and clapping. It was so cute and the photos are magical!

May 2014, I moved in with my boyfriend and tried 2 rings that are small for him. They fit and wear them still. 1 1/2 years later after many discussions of getting married, the verdict was in for yes. Through the time, he wanted to propose and buy a ring. The thought of buying a ring seeing the price wasn't feasible to spend as I considered the ring he gave when moving in as an engagement ring. It was decided that we would spend the money on the wedding bands when the time comes.

My hubby proposed on our 6-year anniversary, so that I wouldn't suspect anything hahaha.

We had a weekend out in the mountains prepared already, so again, when we did "romantic" things, I didn't think much of it!
We drove out to this lodge for high tea and on the way there we stopped on the shore of this massive frozen lake. I was taking pictures of the scenery and when I turned around, my husband was on one knee with the box open in front of him.
Since we were in the middle of the mountains, we had no reception at the lodge, so we go to enjoy our engagement just the two of us for a couple of hours. When we drove back to our hotel room, we started making calls lol.

We were celebrating a promotion at work with a bottle of wine. Right after I poured our glasses I turned around to find him on one knee in our kitchen. The rest is a bit of a blur!

My Husband proposed in Cuba on the beach at sunset. His sister, her husband, and a couple we were friends with were all with us.

I honestly did not see it coming, but after he did it, I caught on to some things that I overlooked before hand.

It was our first full day there, we were all hanging out on the beach, and it was getting closer to sunset. His sister suggested we take a walk down the beach towards the point to get pictures of the sunset. So my husband ran up to our room to put our bag away, and came back down with one of those draw string backpacks on his back which he claimed was for all the shells we would collect along the way, and some water.

So we walked along the beach, and everyone was no longer behind us, my husband stopped caring about all the amazing shells I was finding which I thought was weird, but just kept walking. As we reached the point, he grabbed my hands and took my hat off, pulled his back pack off his back and grabbed the ring box. It was amazing. His sister got so many pictures, and our friend got a video of the whole thing with the sunset behind us!

On the plane ride down, he refused to put his carry on bag ahead, and shoved it under the seat in front of him. He didn't want to let this bag out of sight. We brought Bubba's with us for drinks, and i had suggested that day that we bring both down the fill with water and he refused. He hid the ring in there, because thats somewhere I wouldn't be going!

It was a cold winter evening, I had a whole date night planned and nothing could go wrong!... ya, so I took him out and woo'd the man okay? I swept him off his feet and all that romantic stuff.
    • Date: December 30th 2017 (just 10 months into dating)

The plan: Take him to the Canad Inns WinterWonderland Light Show and propose in the tunnel of hearts/love, then take him out for pizza wherever his heart desired, and end the night with a movie - Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

I took him to the light show and of course it just HAD to be -30°C plus a windchill... so of course I refused to get out of the car to propose and rather proposed to him right there in the car. I had purchased a couples bracelet set from Claire's (that's right, ya girl went all out with a $10 set of bracelets) that said "Her One" and "His Only" on them (although I ended up wearing it as a choker instead as it was so large). Before I could get out half of the words as to why I knew he was the one for me and how I would stick with him through everything that life would throw at us I was crying my eyes out. It was nerves, it was happiness, it was a little gross tbh Smiley tongue I mentioned that even though we had only been together for 10 months, even though he was my first and only boyfriend I've had, even though I was only 20 years old to his 27 that THIS WAS IT. There was no need to keep looking because we had found each other.

Of course he said yes, he was shocked and for sure thought I would be proposing at our 1 year anniversary that we would be spending in Prague, Czech Republic - but I did warn him earlier when we were talking marriage back in October 2017 that I would not be proposing on a cliché like Christmas, New Year's Eve/Day, or our anniversary!

We continued on our night and we were both super excited to share the news with everybody - but of course it wouldn't be that easy. He did the traditional thing of going to my Father and asking his permission before we made it official and could tell our families or our friends. Hence only the two of us knew about our engagement while ringing in the new year as Fiancé(e)'s.

My fiancé proposed to me at the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu during the sunrise, after a 4-day hike on the Inca Trail, in Peru. It was the most beautiful thing ever! He planned it for a year! The craziest part is that I dreamt it almost exactly how it happened just two weeks before leaving for our trip to Peru! But he did a great job at steering me off track so I had no idea what was about to happen Smiley love

My fiancé is Lebanese, and in his culture, men wear an engagement ring on their right hand. So a few weeks after coming back from our trip, I got him a ring and flowers. I usually get home from work before him, so I was waiting in our entrance on one knee with the flowers in my hand and the ring hidden. When he walked in, I told him I obviously want to marry him, but I wanted to make sure he also wanted to marry me Smiley winking he said yes and now we're both wearing our beautiful engagement rings!

My FH proposed when we were on vacation visiting some friends in Jasper AB, we took a day to do the tourist-y things while our friends were at work and went up the Jasper Skytram. We hiked pretty much the whole way up Whistler Mountain and he proposed at the top.

He had been to Jasper without me two years before and went up the mountain that time, and he skyped me from the spot he was planning on proposing. When we got to the top there were other people in that same spot the whole time, so it didn't happen in the exact spot he had planned but it was still magical.

All our friends knew he was going to propose so when we got back down from the mountain we went to see them at work to show them the ring, we went for dinner with our friends that night to celebrate and it conveniently was the day that the restaurant had their half-price bottles of wine special, we got champagne, we stayed in a hotel with a rooftop hot tub and overall it was the best day.
