We moved to November. I sent a mass email and honestly kinda expected not to get some deposits. I think that keeping deposits sucks but I guess is part of doing business, I mean I wouldn’t want them to go bankrupt but I don’t think there is a reason to keep more than they should either. If you paid in full they should at least refund you the rest no? Can you use her for something else? If she is refusing a refund then i would expect product! Sorry that sucks. Take a deep breath girly, there is a lot of people going through the same, we will get through it!

    When did u move to?
Ours gave us back less than the deposit FAR less and feels entitled to keep the rest. It’s horrible... I understand being a small business owner 100% but also being a kind human. We live and a small town and I supported locally for her 1st year full time.
She is holding back hundreds and hundreds into a thousand it’s sick. She is refusing to speak on the phone because she is afraid of crying. Her emails are just circles.

Sorry to hear you are going through this too. It’s not easy! Our florist was available and just moved my deposit for our new date, we did move it to a crappy time of the year! Hoping for the best! What is yours saying?

I think so, you’d be renting out the space! You’d probably have a hard time getting a reply now they are closed until April 20!

Hey I love that venue! But they are so hard to get a hold of so you know if they do ceremony only? (I already have my reception space)

I totally agree with you. We have one half of our guest that are at high risk for contracting the virus (many in our inner circle) and the other half are potentially exposed isolation exempt due to the nature of their jobs. Another percentage of our guest where flying in, now their visas are cancelled. It has been a very stressful week! The reason I had asked is because I was not getting much information and was wondering if other couples had successfully made other arrangements. Ultimately I cannot expose my family and friends, it would be totally irresponsible.

We reached out and are working with the Venue to postpone. Such a weight lifted off my shoulders!

Thanks! We got a hold of the right person and are now in the process of postponing, such a relief!

If I were to be planning at this time of year, I would cancel due to events cancelled and travel affected by the world borders closed. This would cause the guest list to decrease due to number of guests not showing up/cancelling. When the time seems right, I would reconsider to get the wedding date booked given the green light of the whole outlook.

Sorry to hear the venue is being unresponsive. I know a ton of trade shows at Exhibition Place was cancelled, which probably led to the hotel with a ton of room cancellations for out of town guests. I imagine they're swamped with questions not just from regular guests but from those there for conferences and special events for the next few months. Hope you hear back soon.

The venue was not very helpful when I contacted them which is very frustrating. My wedding is just under 200 but I know they hold multiple weddings at the same time. I’m just wondering if maybe someone has received some concrete response? I will be contacting them again this week. I don’t know what to do

Not trying to scare you but something you should keep in mind of, since Hotel X is part of Exhibition Grounds, which is owned by the City of Toronto, if the government decides that all gatherings of a certain size must be cancelled, it may be out of your control. Not sure how big your party is but you should message the hotel and ask what their contingency is. A lot of conferences and events that was supposed to take place in the next three weeks on government owned properties wanted to push forward and continue despite recommendations by health officials but were forced to cancel because the government mandated it to do so.

I am not myself, but a lot of people are either going through with a small amount of people or cancelling altogether.

OUr wedding is in September. I really hope this is cleared up by then.
