Hors d'oeuvres that can be served at room temperature and prepared ahead

Megan, on September 13, 2017 at 14:20 Posted in Wedding reception 0 18

I have entered the (masochistic) world of self-catering! Any recommendations for hors d'oeuvres that can be served at room temperature and prepared ahead (preferably frozen)?

I'm able to expand to some hot appies, as we have 2 steel Coleman coolers I can turn into 'hotters' lol Judicious selection as some things will get soggy, but it's an option

Here's my Pinterest board: http://pin.it/fhhfp4w. I have another for crackers (almost everything on the market has egg or palm!) Note this board is something of a catch-all, but there's a gluten-free puff pastry recipe in there.

That would be great! Especially because I am gluten intolerant and i am sure with 150 or so guests im sure there will be some other diet restrictions. Smiley smile

I have a pinterest I can share, but as per my comment to another, it's pretty skewed towards restricted diets (gluten free, vegan, egg free)

I have a pinterest going I can share with you if you want some ideas. I have to manage a mix of food restrictions (gluten free, vegan and chicken/egg, plus the usual nuts) so most of mine are either already modified or modifiable.

I have lots of fridge space at the venue, just no cooking facilities. This weekend's adventure will be to see how I do at making gluten free puff pastry!

I'm in the same boat too Maegan. Self catering too save some cash. We have the main meal plan done out already easily. But the snack foods I have no idea what to do. 😫😫

I'm at a loss. I'd have to google it or go on youtube to get ideas. The only thing I can come up with is crackers, cream cheese, and grapes.

Fruit salad skewers, salad on a skewer like tomato basil bocconcini, bruschetta, cheese and crackers, cold soup like gazpacho. A few coolers to cool things down would really open up your world though.

Do you have access to a fridge at the venue? Maybe even get a cooler, or two, to keep things fresh that are prepped ahead of time. You can then have more options of hors d'oeuvres.

Everything I'm thinking of is dessert based like cakes, cupcakes and cream puffs. You can do a lot of fun things with dips and you can probably freeze those ahead of time.
