Hiring a dj

We have booked ours (wedding in Sept. 2022). Our guest list is a little more than 100.

Price was a consideration but more than that we were focusing on having a good selection of music for dancing, what services he would provide (lighting, ceremony music etc). We ended up interviewing 3 or 4 and whittled it down to 2. It was a very tough decision to make but we are very satisfied with the one we picked.

I have a friend who dj's she won't do weddings for most people but she will for me. I've been to somewhere she was working and it was fun and people were up dancing. It's nice that she's my friend and she knows the type of music we are looking for.

When booking a DJ, be aware that the person you're dealing with may not necessary be the person who is working your event. A lot of DJ companies have a roster and you won't know who you're assigned until the event itself. So if you're using the conversation with the person as an indicator on choice, just be mindful of that. At least ask them "are you the one working my event on the day of?"

We held off on booking a DJ due to the lack of dancing allowed and with that restriction likely not easing this summer (not to mention the smaller guest counts we're allowed), we've decided against hiring one.

My fiance and I booked ours 2 years in advance in 2018 for our 2020 wedding but we've had to postpone twice. He's been wonderful to deal with and we're really happy that we chose him. Our decisions were based on price, reviews and if our conversation with him went will and if we had a good vibe. You want to feel comfortable with the person you're choosing since they're going to be with us for the entire day since our DJ is also going to be doing our ceremony as well

My fiancé and I did not book a DJ due to our wedding being small with an even smaller budget. 😂 So in this case, we are having a family friend (on fiancé side) play music from a playlist that we will be putting together.

What are your options in hiring DJ?

We originally weren't going to book a DJ (Trying to do our wedding on a tight budget) but one of our coworkers has been DJing for 25 years and offered us his friends and family rate. I researched questions to ask and was happy with his answers so we are going to book him!
