help me bring my vision to this massive Venue!

Kaila, on August 28, 2018 at 08:01 Posted in Wedding reception 0 16

Hi everyone! I am newly engaged. I have lucked out and landed an amazing venue for an AMAZING price... Now my problem is transforming this venue into my vision. Could anyone assist me in ideas on how to decorate this massive place?! My vision is elegant, chic and romantic. I would like to cover just the bottom portion of the walls with some sort of elegant fabric? I just dont know what to use? Or where to start?

A light white linen fabric is a great idea to hang from the rafters. I would caution away from thin fabrics though, as you might need more of it to get the same effect, especially because it is such a large space. I would definitely consider adding from hanging greenery or florals as well, I think it would work really well with the theme you are going for. My biggest concern would be finding the right person to do your set-up and tear-down. Make sure it is someone that has proper liability insurance and is trained to properly work from heights (in Ontario there is actually government standard training for this).

Also I see that you are in Little Current, if this venue is on the island, I can ask a friend who did their rentals in...her wedding was in Kagawong.

That might work too. What type of fabric do people usually use to do this sort of look?

You are getting married in the summer in Ontario which I presume will be very warm....What time is your ceremony/reception? I would recommend going with lighter fabric like cotton or polyester as well as lighter colours as the fabric could get very warm from the sunlight. It will also help to keep your venue cool. If you want something romantic and elegant, I suggest going with a pastel purple or pink which will go well with white or silver.

I plan to start the fabric at the first pole. Which is 12 feet high, I do not plan on covering the entire dome. That would cost too much. I am looking for recommendations on what type of fabric to use?

You can do fabric, or you could also do greenery?

Fabric wise, are you wanting to go 2 colours tying them to your wedding or 1? Having the fabric on pole stands in the floor to give that surround look if lights will be in the back of the drapes.

Who will handle the installation though? If the rental company will handle the installation, then that’s okay! Also, lighting and production companies tend to also handle drapery so it’s possible they might have better prices?

In that case - I think that two different reds draped like this would look nice and then add black lace on the light coloured red and maybe some twinkle lights on the darker drapes (given that they would have to be flame retardant or whatever).

Agreed with this! I tried to do this on my own initially and it was stressful. Caterers will generally work with rental companies if they don’t have their own stuff so their recommendations can be useful as well!

This is such an awesome place! I love how different it is. A lighter fabric would be great to give you that soft romantic look. I would start by figuring out where you want the fabric to start, how high up on the sides, do you want to keep the top open to see the high ceiling, or do you want to cover it to give the illusion that you are in a tent.

Once you figure out the design you want, then you can start measuring so you know how much fabric you will need.

Also agree with Tori looking into rental companies. If they are too expensive, see if they will offer you opinions on how to bring your vision to life.

I have tried that. It is in a rural area with not a lot of wedding decorators there. The one quote I have is crazy. So I have a hook up at a fabric warehouse so I just need advice on fabric.

Honestly - my best advice is to get a rental company with a designer to help bring your vision to life. If you have a wonderful wedding show or at least the website for your province you can see what vendors were there for that exact type of thing (in case you didn't want to go through tons of google pages).
