Help: Inexpensive Wedding Venue For BFF

Rachael, on February 12, 2019 at 13:11 Posted in Ontario 0 16

Hey ladies,

My best friend and her fian are having a hard time finding a venue that fits their budget and guest size.

Currently, they're at 350 guests. As they both have big families, I doubt the number will decrease much; as a result of this, they're looking for a venue for both their ceremony and reception that has an inexpensive per person package. I'd say the maximum they can spend is $80 per person (this includes alcohol and food). They're open to a buffet-style dinner, and are willing to have a winter wedding to cut costs.

Anyone have a recommendation? I've tried looking personally, but here I am.

Edit: They're hoping to wed in winter 2020 or 2021.

    I don't think it's something she'll consider, but I appreciate the suggestion!

Generally, yes. During my own search for a wedding venue I found that if the guest count doesn't meet a certain number for a space, the price goes up per person to make up for it (and in a rare case I saw that if you exceed a certain number of guests a discount may be applied, though I believe that was geared toward restaurant weddings).

I don't think she's hoping for the latter; she wants to see if there's something cheaper available. I included guest count above as not all venues can host that many guests from what I've seen through Wedding Wire's 'Wedding Venues' search and my own on her behalf.

Universities will sometimes have a decent space for such events...

Not sure about pricing being reasonable based on the venue unless it was a school or community center.

Venues will have packages that will give choices based per person (food & alcohol) open bar and number of courses. Guest count is also overlooked.

Ah, that's good to know! I'll let her know that too. It might be worth it for her to ask about the possibility of changing the date after booking too. (This way she's able to secure a spot, but has flexibility if she hasn't saved up enough by that date).

If they go with Paradise I do recommend booking early. I went in January of 2018 looking to book for August 2019, and they didn't have any of the dates I wanted available.

That's the problem with venues, the affordable ones go really quickly!

Same! I think they should either go with Paradise Banquet Hall or wait (if not both), but in the meantime I'm trying to help and appreciate the help from the community. Smiley smile

Totally do tell them to try a Sunday since it cuts the cost down by 20% or so. I really don't think they'll find anything cheaper unless they cut out an open bar lol.

Agreed. That's what I told her when I saw her on Saturday!

    Thank you, Bianca!

That's the venue they're currently considering, but they're still interested in seeing what else is out there in case they're able to get a better deal. It sounds amazing to me, but they're really struggling budget-wise. I'm not sure if they've inquired about a Sunday wedding though so I'll run it by them!

I also think that 350 is going to be pricey, so they might be better off looking for 2021 so they can save!

Girl, Paradise Banquet Hall. It is the most appropriate place for a modest budget and delivers on the food and space.

Their summer prices are cheap (Sunday's are $85/PP), so I can just imagine what their winter prices are! Also, they're located at Jane just south of Highway 7.

Thanks, Allison! I don't think she's looked at hotels yet, so that's a good starting point!

    I think so too.

    Ah ok!

I'm not in the GTA so not much help, but is there any hotels that have larger conference rooms? The hotel we are getting married at has a ballroom that can hold up to 500 people (Best western Plus chain).

I feel like Mississauga/Vaughan will also be cheaper than downtown Toronto. I've stayed overnight in Vaughan due to airplane delays and saved $200 on a hotel room vs staying downtown Toronto, and they were in the same hotel chain level (both Marriotts).

Hey, Allison! Anywhere from November to March month-wise, though my best friend prefers March. Either 2020 or 2021 if they're able to budget for it.

Yes, they're also from the Toronto area; however, they're open to other locations such as Mississauga, Vaughan, etc!

Where are they getting married? Are they in the same area as you (Toronto)?
