Having a dj

Chelsea, on November 7, 2016 at 15:18 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5

I am having a DJ at my wedding but I get that some people are on budgets and would rather do their own music to save money...What will you be doing at your wedding for music.

I recently went to a wedding and they did their own music off of a laptop and rented some speakers and the flow of the wedding seemed off and any time a song they didn't want played came on they would have to go over and change the song and same thing if a song played that had already played!

We have hired a DJ also- when we were planning an even smaller reception we were going to do it ourselves...but as the list went up, and plans changed it was no longer practical.

Our DJ offers lighting, which we have declined, as I'm not a fan of uplighting or the coloured light disco ball type things. He also lets us "forbid" songs and give a list of must plays...He also has a site, where were can allow guests to request songs, but we will not use it. I think with those people often choose a sing they want to hear- but that they might not actually dance to. Leave it to the pros!

I agree Chelsea. I created a playlist for my birthday party and it was a lot of work. I gave it to the DJ and about 40% of my list was played. I choice not go through this again. Our DJ is letting us pick out tops songs and songs that we do not want to hear played at our wedding. I do want to have songs that kids will enjoy at our wedding, but I am banning "Let it go!" from Frozen (ha ha ha) as it has been overplayed and no parent(s) I know what's their kids to sing that song for weeks to come.

I agree with you Simone! I think there is a lot more work that goes into it then just playing some music! Plus in the case of my DJ, he helps the day of co-ordination, we are getting special lighting packages from him, and he does way more then just play music! He will get people up and dancing and it wont feel forced or unnatural. Plus you would need to make sure songs are kid friendly if you have kids at the wedding! So I think having a DJ is a good thing and I would certainly reccomend brides to get one!

Hey Chelsea! Smiley heart DJs are definitely a great investment so everyone can have fun without worrying about music! They also bring music to your playlist you wouldn't necessarily have thought of, so great choice! Smiley smile

You can also take a look at these discussions to see what other brides are up to!

We are definitely having a DJ at our wedding. I think it would be a lot of work to program the music on our own.
