Have you or will your hire a planning coordinator?

Jessica, on February 24, 2020 at 16:11 Posted in Before the wedding 0 16

HELP!!!! I cannot decide if it is worth the extra money to hire someone to help with planning... It would most likely be for the Day of Coordination if I did decide to..

Please let me know how you made your decision!

So, I have been a part of several weddings now and for the couples who didn't get a coordinator, wished they did! Having someone there the day of to help things along goes a long way! I've seen a few things go wrong and the brides are usually left taking care of things so with all this experience, I knew I wanted someone to help us out. As soon as we got engaged the first thing I did was look at coordinators.

Personally, my FH and I have very busy jobs so I went with the Full coordination package and only paid $2400.00 which is much lower than what most people pay (https://www.weddingwire.ca/wedding-planning/weddings-and-events-by-angela--e1641) i'm not sure what her month of or day of packages cost but it might be worth looking into Smiley smile

    Good luck!

My advice: As a friend or family member you trust.

My fiance and I asked one of his cousins (who's also our close friend) to be our day-of coordinator. She's someone who is really organized, has been in a lot of weddings, and she loves that she can help us out this way! A great thing about it is that I don't have to pay so much money - anything will be seen as a gift because she is excited about helping us out.

So far she has been great! She has already met with us and wrote down as much info as we know about the day. I am going to tell her everything, even things she might not need to know, just so I have piece of mind that someone else knows. All questions that day will be directed to her so I don't have to worry. We're calling her "the brides brain" for the day before and the day of the wedding. We'll decide closer to of how much we will give her, but I don't think she's even expecting anything.

I did..... I asked around and literally all of our married friends strongly suggested to at least get day of coordinator. I hired them way in advance and have been great through the planning process, providing suggestions and asking questions that I would have no even considered until they brought it up. When it came down to it I just don't want to stress about anything on the day of and just want to enjoy the day. They can be pricey... Like others said the average price in Toronto for example, for month/day of coordination is about $2,000+. So if this is a significant part of your budget I would probably skip it. If you decide you want one I would suggest meeting/ talking to a few, because 1- it is super duper important you click, and 2- although most provide about the same service they are not exactly the same. I was torn between two companies and when I decided to hire one, the one that was not chosen sent a rather nasty email, dodged a bullet there for sure!

Although my wedding day is not for a couple months I would say so far they have been worth it and would recommend getting one.

Go through the WPIC website and you'll find plenty of certified planners not charging premium prices because they were featured in a magazine or were on TV once.

I'm a perfectionist so I would like a month-of coordinator so that we don't have to stress the days leading up to the wedding. But like others said, it'll come down to cost. in the GTA I haven't found many for less than $2k.

That's a good point - I had the bonus of having my venue for the entire weekend (Friday - Sunday) so we were able to set everything up the night before which helped!

    This.

We're doing everything in one venue but chose to splurge on a coordinator because on the day of our wedding, we don't want a bunch of vendors bugging us every other minute or be inundated with info download just because things aren't going 110% according to plan. They'll also setup and take down so we don't have to schlep things around in our formal wear. It's a cost we're forking out so our family and friends can sit back and enjoy their time fully at the wedding.

We decided not to get a day of coordinator. I'm an organized person and am going to confirm with everyone and organize a couple days before, but for the day of I've asked my family to help out with certain vendors.

We decided not to. I had mentioned it to FH and he pointed out that his family will be free for the entire wedding day (theyll be visiting from out of province) and they can do a lot of the set up.

We're only using one venue so we don't need to decorate several spaces. Our bakery is around the corner from the venue. It didn't make sense to pay someone for what we're doing. BUT if you want one and there's room in the budget a day of coordinator can definitely be worth the reduced stress!

I'm with Amelia on this one. I wanted peace of mind the day of since I'm also a type A personality and I didn't feel comfortable asking friends/family to take on the responsibility since I want them to enjoy themselves too. So making room in the budget for one was totally worth it for me and FH. My coordinator also has great resources that have helped me tremendously in the planning stages as well, so she's more than paid for herself already.

Our venue thankfully includes a day-of coordinator and I honestly can't imagine trying to take on the day without her. I can totally handle everything up until the day but I'm very type A so I'd never be able to just enjoy the day if she wasn't there to run everything behind the scenes. We have a fairly tight budget but if our venue didn't already have a coordinator included, we 100% would've splurged on one. Peace of mind seems worth the price to me.

I'm not going to hire anyone. I have asked two friends of mine to step into the role for me. They will do any decorating if we can't get the hall the night before. My venue has a day of planner so there is no reason for me to hire. If I didnt have anyone I could trust for the day of I think I would hire someone.

Depends on a couple things imo.

Hire one if: over 100 guests, two separate locations for ceremony and reception, don't have wedding party/ family that can help

Don't hire one if: 100 guests or less, same location for entire wedding, you have a wedding party/ family to help

Also price - when I had origanlly hired a day-of/month-of coordinator her fees were to be $1,000 all in. I can't see it being worth it for anything more than that.
