Has anyone planned a honeymoon trip to Asia? Specifically Cambodia/vietnam/indonesia area?

Agnieszka, on August 30, 2018 at 09:51 Posted in Honeymoon 0 5

My future hubby and I want to plan a trip to Asia for 2 weeks after our wedding. Any places anyone recommends? Any preferred method of travel once there? It will be a backpacking type of trip.

My FH and I have are going to Bali (12 Days) and Shanghai (2 Days) for our honeymoon in October. For Bali in rented private Airbnb’s with private pools in Kuta, Uluwatu and Ubud for less that we’d pay for a hotel in Canada. On the way back I extended our layover in Shanghai for 2 days we we can explore as well. All together flights and hotel + spending money we are paying less than one week in an all inclusive in Mexico.

We plan to travel via private car, by foot and possibly by scooter if we are brave enough. Not back packing, but you don’t really need to back pack in Bali. Definitely excited about the beaches, culture and food!

We did Thailand and Cambodia a couple years ago. I would def recommend you see the Angkor wat temples/ruins if you're going to Asia. There are many different ruins to see at the archaeological park but the main Angkor temple allows you to enter in the morning while it's still dark and watch the sunrise over the temple. It's an unforgettable experience. Other highlights for us were the Grand Palace in Bangkok and the beaches in the Thai islands, most beautiful beaches I've ever seen.

Friends of ours who did the same plus Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar said Thailand is a little more on the touristy side and some people found it overdeveloped or crowded but others loved it. We found that made it easier to get by speaking English, the people are super friendly and helpful and it's good for a first trip to Asia. I loved both countries but Thailand was our fav and we are planning to go back for our honeymoon.

If you want to go to Indonesia, I would recommend Bali. There's not much point going to other cities. If you like beaches, parties and crowds, stay at the area of Kuta. If you like beaches but more secluded and private, check in at Nusa Dua (it's a little more expensive than Kuta). I would recommend to stay few nights at Ubud, the mountain area in Bali. There you will see the real village life, very friendly people, beautiful rice fields, temples, riding bicycle in and out of villages and lots of handy crafts workshops. If you want to go around, it's good to find local private tour guide. He will bring you to local restaurants and shops away from tourists price tags

I haven't' gone yet, but FH and I are going on a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in March 2019. Will post some of the highlights we are planning soon - and will happily share after we get back - although I'm sure that's a little late for your planning purposes!

I haven't planned my own trip there. But I worked on a cruise ship that travelled asia. I honestly think the cruise is a good way to go. or doing part of your trip with an excursion/travel company. and then taking time on your own.

Cambodia - sihounakville is awesome (beach/resort town). the only thing with Cambodia, it hurt my heart how much poverty there is. I wasn't prepared for that.

Vietnam - halong bay is BEAUTIFUL and its a UNESCO heritage site. there are these large rock formations that only small boats can get around. and I took an awesome boat trip that actually took we got to go into caves. really awesome. Nha Trang is a beach/resort town that I loved too.
