Guestbook - Silly Question about Signatures

Kelsie, on September 11, 2019 at 13:45 Posted in Wedding reception 0 19

Hey ladies!

I've finally chosen to go with Costco for designing and producing our (photo) guestbook. It's super cool, but a lot of work inserting all the pictures, sizing them right, assembling on the page. I was joking with my mom it is basically a part-time job that I pay for!!

For our guestbook, kind of think like high school yearbook but without as many photos on each page (I've attached something similar below, for reference).

With our guestbook, we want guests to choose a page that has a picture they like and sign next to it. My FH is all paranoid people are going to be writing all over the actual pictures and literally wants to have a sign next to the guestbook that says "please don't sign on the pictures".

I think this is silly. I don't think we need to spell out to guests how to write in the guestbook.

I was just thinking of having a sign that says "Please sign our guestbook next to a picture that you love!" I think the words "next to a picture" gives a good enough hint without being ridiculous.

Overall, this is small potatoes but my FH is so paranoid - it's driving me crazy!!

Thoughts?

Definitely a good suggestion we’ll have to think about. Only have 2 people in our bridal party so they can’t be everywhere during the receiving line. We’ll have to see if others can help!

If I were you, I'd have either a member of your bridal party or one of your parents overlooking the guest book at the beginning to guide people on how to sign it. After that, anyone who signs it will see what people have been doing and follow suit.

The book itself isn't that big - 12" x 12" I think. We're sizing them appropriately enough, some pages have less white space than others due to the size of the photo, etc. but yeah, hope no one signs on the photos.

I went to a wedding where the couple used their engagement photos in their guestbook, which was a beautiful idea.
The couple made the book large enough that guests had more than enough room to sign around the pictures or on the blank page next to them. As long as you're making a lot of space for guests, then I wouldn't worry about people signing ON the pictures.

If you google Costco Photo Centre it’ll come up! Keep in mind, they are online only as of this month I think, so you do it all online and it gets delivered to your house - no more in store pick up.

I love this idea!! Really different and creative Smiley smile I think your way of saying it will be sufficient and the white space makes it obvious ppl should sign there!

I dont think people will sign the photo itself especially since there is white space for people to write. i just think this is common sense. plus your sign advises them not to sign the photos. i think youre gonna be fine

It should be common sense to people not to sign on pictures, but like you said some people lack that common sense. I originally wanted to do a canvas print of us, and have people sign it, but then thought about the same thing! I didn't want people drawing mustaches or something on our faces lol.

Putting " please sign next to the picture" should be good. Maybe have someone from your wedding party standing by the guest book to make sure people know if they don't read the sign.

I really like this photo guestbook idea and would love if you could share a link to the Costco site?

Also - I agree: "Please sign and leave a message beside a photo in our book" is a pretty good idea! Those with common sense will get it, and those without common sense will have a clear direction to follow.

    best wishes to you!

I think saying "Please sign next to a picture" is enough guidance for most people. Like you said, common sense isn't so common, but hopefully most people won't sign ON the photo!

Oh I hear you. I constantly get "What do you mean I have to pay for that?!" "Is that how much that costs?!" "What do you mean I need to have ID to pick up a parcel". The post office is a hoot.

In my line of work, I have learned time and time again that common sense, is unfortunately, not so common haha.

In like your idea of please sign next to the photo. I think people will get the message. Unless you have some real stupid people attending your wedding Smiley xd

You would think they wouldn't... but you have no idea how many of FH's guests called his mom telling her how sorry they were they missed the wedding - and our STD's had 2020 on them (so clearly.. nothing was missed!) - so, in a way, I understand FH's paranoia..but also, want to give people the benefit of the doubt?

I think everyone is right, I should have a polite sign that gives the hint that the pictures aren't for writing on.

Glad to know it worked out for your FSIL!

I think most people would know not to sign on the photo. My FSIL had a photo guestbook like that and no one decided to scrawl over their faces with their signatures or anything. I think adding the "Please sign next to a photo" to your sign will make it even more clear, but in a polite way and you shouldn't have any mishaps.

I honestly wouldn't care if it happened on one photo.. but I mean, all the photos written on - YIKES.

I also don't want people to feel stupid with super direct signage either...so, I hope the sign I want to put is like a hint, hint, nudge, nudge type of sign lmao

I would do the phrase you said- we can only hope people would realize but sometimes people just don't think either.

You would think that people would know better - but I could see it happening. Only thing I can think of is if you physically tape clear page protectors over the pictures so that people get the hint.
