Guest Accommodations Recommendations/advice

Msss, on February 19, 2020 at 20:55 Posted in Before the wedding 0 15

Hello everyone,

My fiancé and I invited my aunts and uncles to the wedding (all of whom live in Italy). At first, only three individuals were coming and now I have been told that six more may come (one of whom plans to stay for a while after the wedding). I am thrilled, of course, but I am also worried because they all expect to stay at my home, which I share with my immediate family and family pets. I really don't want to sleep on the floor. Hotels are not really an option because of how long they each plan to stay (the cost would be too high). Do you have any other recommendations for stays 2 weeks or longer that won't cost a fortune? I thought about Airbnb but have heard several horror stories, making me a bit nervous about that option.

Thank you for your input in advance!

Sincerely, one stressed out bride-to-be lol

Another vote for Airbnbs. My fiance is always apprehensive of them but we have stayed in a few now and had great experiences; we actually are a repeat guests at a fun treehouse in the woods; we actually look forward to visiting with the hosts the next day (they include breakfast, most dont seem to do this).

Like others have said read all the reviews, good and bad. I find the truth is somewhere in the neutral reviews. If there's very few reviews move onto someone else. Check out the area of town they would be staying and make sure it's safe; that's always my biggest concern, I dont want to stay in a bad part of town where I'm worried someone is going to break in or something.
If you're still unsure I always send the host a message and ask any questions you might need answered (you won't know the exact address until you book so I usually will message and ask how far away it is from "x" your wedding venue for example). See how fast they reply; most reply quickly which to me is a good indication that they care and will provide good service and you will be able to get a hold of them if a problem arises.
    Best of luck to you!

    Hello Vinod,

I was apprehensive at first but after receiving everyone's shared experiences using Airbnb I am optimistic. I'll be focusing on accommodations today and adding it to my wedding website *fingers crossed.

Yes, I really don't want to be upset or sleep deprived for my wedding lol Also, our registry gifts are slowly being delivered to our home and those are taking up space as well - one more thing to shift around along with bridal shower and wedding planning items and products.

    Hello Marissa,

Yes, that is what I was thinking after receiving input from others about Airbnb and super hosts. I'm focusing on accommodations today so that I can let my family know and note it on our wedding website. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Airbnb is a great option reviewing the customers comments to know your family is safe and sound staying there.

You sound to have a full house as Indian weddings do for family in one home putting couples in rooms and moving yourselves around. This isn't something you feel to want and giving your room to anyone to sleep. I know the days when I had to sleep in my parents room and having light sleep due to heavy snoring from them. Not fun at all and giving up my room all the time when family needed to stay whenever visiting us.

Twenty of my husband's family members came from Ireland for 2 weeks for our wedding. Two of them stayed at a hotel, but the other 18 were split between two Airbnbs. I had zero experience with Airbnbs before that, but it all worked out great. They got to share two whole houses and the cost was reasonable when split between that many people. I would just recommend doing your homework on the Airbnb host to make sure they have great ratings from many different people.

Hi Tori, I spoke to my father but I think I may have to reach out to my grandmother as well with some airBnB options for my aunts, uncles, and cousins. (Unfortinately, I speak from experience with respect to sleeping on the floor lol so I wouldn't consider outside the realm of possibility).

I know not everybody is like this with their family - but I would either have my parents talk to the family or I would talk to them myself and maybe recommend some hotels or recommend them the super host airBnB's nearby they could look into? If they then mention that they were going to/ hoping to stay with you and your immediate family I would just state that as of right now there is only so much room but if theeey dont' have a problem sleeping on a blowup matress then suuuure! (I'm sure they can't expect the bride and groom to sleep on the floor right before the wedding/ after the wedding right???)

Definitely look into Airbnbs! I've used them a bunch of times and have only ever had wonderful experiences. Like Kelsie said, go with 'superhosts' and read the reviews - but it's sooo easy. And in my experience, Airbnb hosts have more to lose than hotel chains, so they really go above and beyond to try to make you stay the best in can be.

Are any other family members willing to host them? Either entirely or partially? We had relatives from Italy actually stay with us last summer and they spent two weeks with us and two weeks with my aunt. Are you and your FH planning a honeymoon right after the wedding - if so you probably will be leaving before your relative leave to go back to Italy so less congestion in the house.

AirBnB is probably your best bet. Look for hosts who are “super hosts” I think they call it - they’re like verified excellent hosts so you don’t have to worry about any issues. If I were you I’d probably go to the AirBnB with your guests just to get them settled and get the keys.

I’ve used AirBnB in Canada and Europe and ive never had an issue.
