It depends which store you go to. The Costco near me had about 25 different designs for all kinds of cakes, birthday, anniversary, etc. They were very willing to help me but I had to choose a basic design on their list. They could take roses off, change colours to match my colours, whatever, but it had to be within the parameters of their designs. Check it out! You might be surprise at what they offer at your Costco. I've decided to jazz mine up a bit with additional things that I have at home.

I called them later and found out they can do weddings, can customize, and give 10% discount for large orders. A tasting is in order!

We are not going cake, instead we are having pies, and we plan to buy them from our local grocery store, which has amazing pies. I looked into professional bakers as well as farmers markets and farms, but they were too expensive for what we wanted.

In terms of your cupcakes, I know Metro as well as Loblaws/the Superstore have amazing cakes and cupcakes. Costco also has great cakes but not sure if they do cupcakes. I would go into the stores or call and order some flavours that you would want and do a tasting!

Hi Andrea, I bought our wedding cake at Cosco for only $20.00. It will have white buttercream lattice and a large diamond in the centre with our names. I'll put my little bride and groom in that diamond. The inside of the diamond will be outlined in bright yellow, and the scallops on the edge will be pale yellow. I have some silk orange flowers with a little yellow inside. I'll place them on the top right-hand corner of the cake. Voila! Cheap and pretty!

I love the idea of doing your own little testing like Sonja said. That way you can try a few different cup cakes from a few different grocery stores and go with your faves!

I have heard of people getting their cakes at grocery stores like Costco and such but not cupcakes. I think it would be fine though since they make the same batter in smaller format.

Superstore is pretty good. Costco cakes are great too, may be worth checking out if you have one in your area!

The Superstore has a great bakery section. You should check with them. Maybe buy a few different kinds and you and your FH can have a cupcake testing.
