Getting married before the ceremony in bc

Phaidra, on July 9, 2018 at 11:15 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 2

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone has any advice. My partner and I are getting married in BC, and are likely going to have a court house wedding before the ceremony. Has anyone in BC done this recently? Do you have any advice? We are going to get my partner's cousin to officiate, but just for the ceremony. It will be a non-religious ceremony, but are there restrictions? Is there anything that we should be aware of?

Thanks!!

We’re doing the same thing in BC but still working out the logistics.

Ideally we’d have a Martin commissioner marry us legally the morning of or a day or 2 before, and then have my mum perform the ceremony in front of guests.

If it's not a legal civil ceremony, you can do whatever you want. For your guests though, that may feel like they are missing out, make sure you include some of the "mandatory" civil ceremony declarations, so they think/feel like they are watching the real thing.

I'm pretty sure you should still take witnesses to the courthouse with you... but aside from that, your "second" ceremony is whatever you want. The legalities are for the one where you sign the marriage contract.
